Back in 1961, Pierre Verdun, a butcher from a small village in the heart of Burgundy, joined forces with his friend Robert Comte to develop a culinary brainwave. Together they came up with the fi rst food preparation machine featuring a blade on the bottom of a pot that could chop, grind, shred and knead. A patent quickly followed, and the Robot

Coupe processor was launched in 1963, aimed at professional chefs.

AN INNOVATION

This revolutionary innovation saved hours of prep work and quickly became an international success. Comte’s wife felt a tad envious. She asked if he

could please produce a smaller version for her, and domestic use generally. Robert Comte duly obliged and on 1st March, 1971, the fi rst compact domestic food processor was born and christened Magimix. In 1980, the French Groupe Hameur took over the 2 brands and remains the sole owner of the company, with more than 150 employees and an international brand presence.

SABATIER STAINLESS-STEEL

All Magimix food processors are made in a French factory in the former mining centre of Montceau-lesMines, 70 miles southwest of Dijon. The accessories (blades, discs, etc) are all produced in Sabatier stainless-steel and are made in Thiers, the French heart of knife-making. Magimix has always boasted an industrial-grade, direct-drive induction motor, the type that automatically adjusts its power to the task in hand and is guaranteed for a somewhat staggering 30 years.

CELEBRITY FANS

Celebrated French chef Paul Bocuse (1926-2018) was one of Magimix’s fi rst fans. He used a Magimix for all of his professional life, as have many top cooks since, from Jamie Oliver to Pru Leith, Rosemary Shrager, Eric Lanlard, Yotam Ottolenghi and almost every single contestant of MasterChef and The Great British Bake Off .
