Eric will be well remembered for his sense of humor, laughter and willingness to help others. Eric is survived by sisters Cynthia (Patrick) Templeton of Stanwood, Michigan, Tracye Macauley of Ionia Michigan, Lisa (Geoff) Miller of Konawa, Oklahoma, and Robin Brinkman Hayden of Saranac Michigan, Brothers Jack Christensen of Sand Lake Michigan and Ronald Brinkman of Sunfield Michigan, 12 nieces and nephews and 16 great nieces and nephews. husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, and brother, of Portland, passed away at home, surrounded by his family on April 4, 2020. He was born June 26, 1942 in Pewamo, Michigan, the son of Fred and Virginia Werner. Surviving is his beautiful wife of 57 years Diane, daughter Sandi (Art) Salter of Ada, MI, and daughter Cynthia (Denny) Hulliberger of Ionia, MI. Bruce will also be fondly remembered by his 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, and his cat that never left his side, Miss Piggy. Bruce is also survived by his brothers; Tom (Carol) Werner, Jim (Darlene) Werner and his sister Betty (Denny) Bissell.

† WILLIAMS Mark Allan Williams, 71, of Saranac, Michigan, died April 10, 2020. He was born February 28,1949, and is survived by his wife, Adele (Thome) Williams; his daughters Sarah Williams-Ran of Brooklyn, New York, and Katherine Williams of Golden, Colorado; son-in-law Tom Ran and granddaughter Finnley Ran of Brooklyn, New York. He is also survived by his parents Colin and Eleanor Williams of Saranac, brother Steve (Elaine) Williams of Saranac, sister Kathe Miller of Ionia, and sister Nancy (Dave) Downs of Saranac. Mark never shied away from a challenge and was not one to take the easy road - he forged new paths in every facet of his life. He was a lifelong entrepreneur and innovator, including patenting new technologies for road building and agriculture. Mark began farming while in high school, then joined his father to manage Williams Brothers Asphalt Paving. Later, he went on to found his own businesses, with clients and colleagues from all over the United States and around the world. His career intertwined the influences of his grandfathers, Allan M. Williams, an Ionia County Road Commissioner, and Mark Westbrook, a farmer. Mark loved and admired his wife, Adele, a kindergarten teacher at Saranac Community Schools and mother to their daughters, Sarah and Katie. Mark and Adele recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. Mark was deeply committed to his own family and to his extended Thome family. Mark’s favorite days were spent walking through his farm fields outside of Saranac, where he grew corn and soybeans, experimenting with new techniques. He had a love for John Deere tractors and custom-building his own farm equipment. In his earlier years, he was proudly involved with the restoration of the historic 1225 Steam Engine at Michigan State University that inspired the film “The Polar Express”. He was a lifelong learner and reader, with a passion for history and engineering. Mark found new joy as a grandfather; he loved to make Finnley laugh, bringing her to his office and barn to explore when she came to visit, just as he had brought his own daughters along to job sites when they were little. Memorial arrangements will be announced at a later date. Arrangements in care of Lake Funeral Home in Saranac. Memorial contributions may be made in Mark’s name to Saranac Food Pantry or Saranac Library. Online condolences may be sent to www.lakefuneralhomes.com

The Early Time of Trouble

Bars are closed, sporting events cancelled, vacations postponed, politics muted, schools closed for the year. Most distractions are out of the way so that people can hear God speaking to them. 2 Timothy 3: 1-5 tells us that dangerous times would come in the last days. Men will be proud, greedy, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, lovers of pleasure, having a form of godliness, but denying the power of it. Do we see today the breakdown of the family unit? 50% of those who do marry get divorced. Nine million abortions this year. It is not natural affection for a mother to want to destroy her own flesh, her own baby. When the women were starving in Jerusalem, they drew lots to see which of their babies they would eat first. This is spoken of in Lamentations 4: 10 - “The hands of the pitiful women have boiled their own children; they were their meat in the destruction of the daughter of my people.” Now, they don’t eat them; they suck them out of the womb and sell the fetuses for science and profit. Children kill their parents over boyfriends or computer games; parents throw their children in garbage cans and beat them to death for crying too much. Romans 1 :24-32 tells us that they would change the truth into a lie - worshiping the creature more than the Creator. Pornography, fornication, adultery, and homosexuality; women and men leaving the natural and given over to a “reprobate mind.” “Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do it.” The Bible tells us to “Remember Lot’s wife” as Lot left Sodom as it was being destroyed. Today we have the same - not just closet perversion, but militant, radical, in your face reprobates. There were 10 million crimes committed in the US last year. This is supposed to be a Christian nation. But people claim to be Christian and live like the devil. “By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood touches blood.” (Hosea 4:2) Covid-19 may pass, but one item that went up in sales lately was guns and ammunition. What is that? Self-preservation? Or Fear? The Bible says, “Perfect love casts out all fear.” (I John 4: 18). Jesus said, “Fear not them which can kill the body, but fear Him who can destroy both body and soul in hell.” (Matthew 10:28) Jesus said to love your neighbor, not prepare to kill them. We are living in the time of the end. If you have a relationship with Jesus Christ, then these words are for you: Psalm 91:3 - “Surely He will deliver you ... from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings shall you trust: His TRUTH shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid for the terror by night, nor for the arrow that flies by day; nor for the pestilence that walks in darkness; nor for the destruction that wastes at noonday. A thousand shall fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you. Only with your eyes shall you behold and see the reward of the wicked ... There shall no evil befall you, neither shall any plague come near your dwelling, For He shall give His angels charge over you, to guard you in all your ways.”. God bless you and keep you safe. Paid for by Michael Fracker 616-755-5022.

How families can confront remote learning Amid concerns of coronavirus clusters and efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19, and based on social distancing recommendations from medical professionals, schools across the country began to close their doors and adopt a remote learning model in March 2020. One of the largest communities affected was New York City, which closed schools across the five boroughs. The New York City school system is vast, with 1,800 schools servicing more than one million students. School administrators and educators quickly scrambled to find a workaround to meet children's educational needs. Remote learning has been a part of many school curriculums for some time. While remote learning had predominantly been reserved for higher learning institutions, in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak, it became a necessity for grades K through 12 as well. Teachers have had to design curriculums and assignments virtually on the fly in an attempt to minimize disruptions that could adversely affect students. • Remote learning requires the cooperation of school staff and also parents and guardians. Patience is necessary, and parents and educators may need to completely transform their daily schedules. The following tips can be an asset as students continue to navigate remote learning. • Record class sessions. Teachers can consider recording or

"going live" with class instruction so that students can view the video and still have access to their teachers. This helps parents who may be unfamiliar with explaining the curriculum. • Utilize chat features. Remote education software programs likely have a chat or "hangout" feature, which enables classrooms to keep in touch and ask questions in real time. • Keep a schedule. It's easy to begin to sleep late and fall out of routine when not required to go to a school building. Families should make scheduling a priority, which can help students stay on top of lessons and complete their assignments on time. • Ask questions. Everyone is learning as they go, and further clarification may be needed. Students should email or chat with teachers if they don't understand an assignment or are unsure about instructions. Teachers may be able to clearly model a math problem or explain a concept via video chat for students who need help. • Explore educational options. Many companies are offering free educational services while kids are home from school. Scholastic. com is offering online courses, Nat Geo for Kids, Fun Brain, PBS Kids, and Highlight Kids are other places to turn to for activities. Remote learning has become the new norm as the world continues to navigate COVID-19 in an effort to keep the public safe.

3 tips to planning efficient home-cooked meals A few generations ago, dining out was an experience reserved for special occasions. However, until recently, when restaurants were shuttered in the wake of the public health crisis prompted by the spread of COVID-19, many people were dining out multiple times a week. Hospitality solutions provider Fourth surveyed 1,000 American adults in 2019 and 56 percent reported dining out at least two to three times per week. Ten percent said they ate out four to six times each week, while 6 percent said they dined out everyday. People accustomed to relying on restaurant for meals multiple times per week may be unaccustomed to cooking many meals at home, which has become the norm thanks to restrictions placed on restaurants and other food-related businesses as part of COVID-19 social distancing precautions. Learning how to shop for food and prepare items by maximizing available ingredients can reduce trips to the store and help people reduce food waste at a time when food is not as readily available as it once was.

1. Plan meals/browse circulars

Meal planning and shopping lists are vital tools for people preparing meals at home. Without doing so, individuals can be left floundering in the supermarket, spending more money than necessary and making impulse purchases (all the while forgetting items they truly need). Use sales circulars to browse weekly discounted items at stores. Build a week's worth of meals off of these sale items - going so far as to write out a cursory menu - then fill in any extra ingredients or staples needed on a shopping list. Leave a day or two for leftovers. Try organizing the list to follow the natural layout where items are arranged in the store.

2. Shop smart

With paper and pen in hand or a digital list compiled on your phone, go aisle by aisle and check off items as they are added to the cart. If you are shopping for food you hope will last a week or more, consider substituting canned and frozen foods and other nonperishables for fresh items because they can be stored for longer

per person is adequate. That means a roast or steak of 11/2 to two pounds is fine for a family of four. Use up older frozen or perishable foods first. Store foods properly and use them before the use-by date. Wrap up leftovers and turn them into new meals. With proper planning and smart thinking, homecooking can be more efficient and less wasteful.
