IBB AT HOME WELCOME I WINTER 2015

Welcome to the winter issue of IBB at Home! As 2015 comes to an end, I’m taking a moment to celebrate the success of IBB Design and the amazing team I have the pleasure of working with every day. It’s been a big year for us! We have designed projects for our private clients, model homes for our partner Highland Homes, specifications for Highland buyers, and exciting commercial projects. The commercial side of our business takes me back to when I first started in interior design. The majority of my clients were doctors and attorneys who enlisted my service for their offices, and then their own homes. Over the years, we’ve been fortunate to work on a range of commercial projects including club houses at country clubs, airplane hangars and medical offices, including MINT Dentistry – you’ll get a peek into the MINT owner’s Dallas penthouse in this issue. When you think of interior design, most people primarily think of their homes – but don’t overlook businesses. The look and feel of a business space is an extension of the brand and projects more than you may think. Interiors can create a positive work environment, helpful shopping experience and so much more. Interior design is a crucial element of a commercial space and I look forward to working with even more businesses this coming year. At IBB, our team of 30 talented interior designers are here to assist you with your residential and commercial needs – new construction, remodels or interior design and décor.

TREND REPORT

WINTERY

BLUE

Wintery Blue is a soft cool blue with silver undertones. It’s a tranquil hue providing a sense of rest and respite. With its calming effects, blue as a color is known to be a stress reliever. Seen in everyday life in the depths of our blue skies, it’s one of nature’s neutrals and pairs beautifully with a multitude of interior colors.

Fabulous table lamps double as pieces of art. It’s a beautiful way to add an organic touch to any room.

At IBB Design, we celebrate local artists and vendors year round in our retail showroom and also every February at our full-day local event. You’ll notice “IBB Loves Local” tags on items throughout the store highlighting some of our favorite local companies. We’re so fortunate to have such fabulous local resources. Here are five of my favorites! How fun are these lighted letters!? Festive, functional and perfect for a media room or game room – you name it!

This local artist brings texture into her work which creates a glorious focal point. The designers at IBB Design can even work with you to commission a custom piece to coordinate with your space.

Mixed media pieces brings dimension and a pop of vibrant color to any room.

Talk about an accent table that wows! A collection of agate images have been applied to acrylic with gold detailing to create a stunning piece.

styling a console The key to thoughtfully selecting items which speak to your taste and lifestyle.

A well-styled console table can be the perfect first impression in an entry way or a focal point in any room. Plus, it’s a platform to showcase your style and personality. Symmetry Add symmetry and height with a pair of stunning lamps or large ginger jars. Backdrop Display a favorite piece of art or

mirror in the middle above the console. Mirrors can help open up a small space, while artwork can introduce color into your home. Personality Add a stack of cocktail table books based on your hobbies or interests, and a few family photos. Your favorite fragrant candle can develop into the signature scent for your home that always reminds your guests of you.

Color For a pop of fresh color, use a fabulous silk floral arrangement or fresh flowers in a hand blown glass vase. There are so many uses for console tables in your home. The key to styling them is to thoughtfully select items which speak to your taste and lifestyle, and offer function for the space in which they are placed.

I recently had the opportunity to collaborate with Diane Duncan during the construction of her Bob Thompson Home. Diane wanted a chef-inspired kitchen since she loves putting her culinary degree to use and spending her spare time cooking. After brainstorming and consulting on the layout, our thoughts were converted to loose sketches that led to a concept rendering. Sharing a detailed rendering with clients helps them envision the space to tweak the design before building begins.

PANTONE 16-4109 TPX ARONA

The cabinetry was designed with an emphasis on functionality and style. The far left cabinets were intended to look like a built-in furniture piece with open shelving for cookbooks and glass cabinetry for display. The long wall of cabinets was broken up with a built-in floor to ceiling pantry for quick access. Trays and utensils are all stored out of sight in cabinets flanking the cooktop. Diane also requested a built-in table for everyday dining, and I specified custom dining chairs in a fabric that mimics the colors of the backsplash.

The backsplash is a handmade wedgewood crackle blue glaze and a stand out design element against the white cabinetry. High-end granite countertops with warm taupe tones tie in to the wood beams and floors. Polished Nickel hardware adds a modern feel while the faucet provides a vintage vibe in this traditional style home. Detailed planning of the design truly brings the style to life and offers a functional space to love for decades to come. At IBB Design, we are here to help with the process from start to finish.

COVER STORY

GLAMOUR

& GORGEOUS VIEWS

When Dr. Field Harrison and his wife Sabrina decided to buy the penthouse at The Highland near downtown Dallas, they immediately called Beth Rafferty and Shay Geyer to design a space that would fit their young family’s lifestyle. Having worked with Beth and Shay on various projects before, including their business, MINT Dentistry, the team at IBB Design was familiar with the couple’s chic and fashion-forward taste. The gorgeous Dallas skyline takes center stage of the home and the Harrisons wanted the design to play up the views. The artwork in the entry introduces you to the home’s color palette of contrasting neutrals and metallics chosen to offer glam without detracting from the views. Patterned wallpaper with a threedimensional quilted effect, reminiscent of a Chanel handbag, was selected to envelope the space. Large scale gold-leafed lamps sit atop a console which emulates the wallpaper pattern. The glass rod sputnik chandelier makes a spectacular statement as you enter the home. comfortable

The design goal in the family room was to maximize seating using stylish and comfortable pieces. The main seating area is made up of a custom gray velvet sofa, a pair of velvet pin-stripe modern wing back chairs with metallic gold welt and brass nail heads, as well as a pair of wood framed swivel chairs. For a punch of pattern,

a zebra patterned cowhide rug was layered under a brass and glass cocktail table. A rectangular Swarovski crystal chandelier brings glam into the space, and its open design keeps the views from being obstructed. Metallic gold and silver discs were used to add an element of art on the large TV wall.

Motorized striped sheer drapery was used across floor to ceiling windows in the dining room and family room to filter sunlight during peak hours. A chrome and black granite bar cart on wheels offers ease for entertaining and a segue between the two rooms. The dining room features a custom glass dining table which seats 12. Three acrylic and brass bases were used to support the 130-inch glass top. A geometric patterned fabric was used to create a stripe down the center of the black mohair dining chairs. Suspended chrome and glass balls were used as a modern lighting fixture over the dining table, while silver metallic cork wallpaper offers rich texture to the open dining room.

MODERN

STATEMENT The modern kitchen features linear mosaic tile and a suspended sculptural chandelier. Custom chrome swivel barstools were upholstered in a metallic snakeskin patterned fabric for a fashionable statement at the bar.

The lounge area is a perfect multi-functional space for the Harrisons. A comfy gray sectional, upholstered ottoman and playful striped slipper chairs compose the TV viewing area. A cantilevered shagreen table easily moves around the room to offer the perfect spot to place a drink.

Brass Êtagères flank a coordinating TV console which house metallic woven baskets to store toys for the kiddos. A cream lacquered and brass desk was placed against the back of the chaise sectional where Sabrina can catch up on work while the kiddos watch a movie or play.

IBB AT HOME 29

In the master bedroom, the bed wall was covered in a gorgeous metallic silver grass cloth that perfectly conceals the hidden door to Dr. Harrison’s closet. The brass chain link chandelier makes a bold statement above the four-poster mirrored bed. Rich texture was brought in with black faux fur Euro shams and blanket at the end of the bed. A modern

monogram on metallic linen personalizes the couple’s bedding. A comfy rounded swivel chair was used in the room’s sitting area. Brass elements were brought in with the floor lamp and end table. Motorized drapery stacks back to reveal the picturesque Dallas skyline and can be closed to offer hotel-like room darkening for the perfect slumber.

For more than 25 years, IBB Design Fine Furnishings has proudly designed Huntington Homes’ model homes and recently installed a gorgeous project for them in Windsong Ranch in Prosper, TX. The IBB Design team is thrilled with the accolades it has since received. The home features a modern take on farmhouse style. The design layers textures and a neutral palette. The gray wide-plank wood floors help set the tone as part of the home’s finish out.

STUDY

As you enter the home, you are greeted by soaring ceilings in the large foyer. A distressed antique reproduction was used as the entry cabinet, and large arched iron mirrors reflect the study across the hall. The study features a palette of black, white and gray. A cowhide rug is layered underneath the trestle writing desk. A gallery wall was created behind the desk using a faux skull in white and a mix of framed prints.

The master bedroom has an airy feel in a palette of light taupe, creamy white and gray. A winged upholstered bed was used with distressed gray wood nightstands, and sheer fabric panels drape the windows. A decorative herringbone tile covers the tub and wall for a sophisticated design statement. A soft taupe paint was selected for the bathroom to complement the color palette of the floor tile.

Striped fabric panels were used on the game room’s windows. Those stripes were continued into the seating area by

painting larger stripes in the color palette on the walls. Metal and distressed wood furnishings were selected for the room.

ENTERTAINING

New Year's Eve party ideas

BY ANGIE STRANGE, OWNER POSH FLORAL DESIGNS POSHFLORAL.COM PHOTOGRAPHY BY: APRYL ANN, APRYL ANN PHOTOGRAPHY One of my favorite things to do to celebrate New Year’s Eve is to stay home and host a festive dinner party for my closest friends. As you decorate the table, think stunning and eye catching décor - it will set the tone for your event. Since the day is such a celebratory occasion, why not take the experience up a notch with stunning fresh flowers and a jolt of glitter and gold! There’s no need to buy new vases, just use those you already have on hand. Mismatched vases make a great arrangement too. Add a layer of basic craft glue to your vase, sprinkle gold glitter and you have instantly created sparkle for your table. You can even add glitter to the rim of a plastic charger

plate, or paint a black trim around the charger for a more formal look. Monochromatic floral designs will look perfect in the glitter vases. If you are not sure which flowers to buy, go with a fuller bloom like Hydrangeas, or use flowers in the same color family (as shown here). Larger blooms and unified colors in floral design are a practical way to impress your guests. Flowers at each place setting will create a beautiful and personal touch. Succulents can serve as place card holders and then guests can take them home at the end of the evening as a keepsake from their memorable New Year’s Eve!

{FAVORITE Tip} Enhance your table with candles! Keep a dozen votives on hand to quickly glam up the table with candlelight, or add candles of various heights to bring dimension to the table for a stunning visual.

For the perfect toast to the New Year, add edible glitter on the rim of your champagne flutes. A perfect idea for putting each guest’s name on the flute would be to use a permanent paint pen and then after the event use nail polish remover to remove the paint. Whether you do it up big or opt for a more simplistic look, remember to be thoughtful as you prepare for your New Year’s Eve event. Special details in your planning will be noticed, and make the guests feel welcomed and loved. Share your New Year’s party designs by tagging @posh_floral on Instagram with #IBBPOSHNYE. KIDS’ CORNER

BY JAYLIE GEYER Interior Design by Shay Geyer Renderings by Jane Gianarelli

I'M SO EXCITED ABOUT KIDS' CORNER FOR THIS ISSUE BECAUSE THIS TIME -- I'M THE CLIENT! MY MOM AND I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON A DESIGN FOR MY NEW ROOM AND SHE'S GIVEN ME THE OKAY TO SHARE OUR PLAN WITH YOU.

I've always been a big fan of Kate Spade and I love color and pattern, so we decided to use those as inspiration for my room. Even though my room is pretty big, it doesn't offer much storage or function. My mom came up with a great idea to take advantage of my 15-foot ceilings and double the amount of storage I have now. We are going to build a closet in my room with a bunk bed on top of it. The new closet will be almost twice the size of the one I have now and include adjustable closet rods and shelves.

A daybed will sit in front of the closet wall, and I'll have stairs to get up and down safely from the bunk. My mom has even designed a safety railing for the bunk which looks like the iconic Kate Spade bow. We'll paint the bunk bed in Benjamin Moore's Blue Seafoam, as this shade is my favorite color, and I've found prints to be framed in a gallery wall above the daybed. My mom is using durable Sunbrella fabrics on the daybed, since we know it will get a ton of use. It will be the perfect place to read or rest when I don't want to sleep in the bunk bed. The lighting and window treatments were inspired by different Kate Spade stores my mom and I have visited around the country. My favorite is the acrylic and brass sputnik chandelier to hang over the daybed. We're also having awnings made for the window treatments, just like you would see at a fancy boutique store.

One of my other favorite things in the room is the polka dot desk and bow chair which are actually from the new Kate Spade Home Collection. IBB will carry the new line and I feel very lucky to have these pieces in my room. Finally, the stairs by my desk will lead up to a small room which we are turning into a dressing and vanity area with built-in cabinets and adjustable shelving on either side of the vanity knee space. PAINT COLORS: 1. BLUE SEAFOAM 2056-60, BENJAMIN MOORE 2. JET BLACK 2120-10, BENJAMIN MOORE

Thank you so much for letting me share my new room design with you. For sneak peeks and updates follow my mom (@designershay) and IBB Design (@ibbdesign) on Instagram.
