bio sam nazočan ceremoniji otvaranja prvih kontinentalnih, Europskih igara u Bakuu. Sve, baš sve bilo je na organizacijskoj razini Olimpijskih igara. Međunarodni olimpijski odbor, ali prije svega, Europski olimpijski odbori i organizator, Azerbejdžan i grad Baku, mogu biti istinski ponosni na sve urađeno. Smještaj športaša, objekti, prijevoz, sve je bilo besprijekorno napravljeno, tako da će organizator sljedećih Igara imati problem dostići takvu uistinu visoku razinu organizacije. Siguran sam da će Igre u budućnosti biti prihvaćene kao najvažnije kontinentalno natjecanje europskih športaša i da će međunarodni športski savezi ubuduće modelirati svoje sustave natjecanja na način da Europske igre budu ili kriterij ili jedan od kriterija za odlazak na nadolazeće Olimpijske igre. U tom bi slučaju ovo natjecanje bilo pravo stjecište svih najboljih i najkvalitetnijih športaša koje Europa ima. Sa osvojenih 11 medalja naši su športaši, po ne znam koji put, pokazali da šport za našu zemlju ima golemi Glavni tajnik Hrvatskog promotivni karakter, dok se s druge strane pokazuje da olimpijskog odbora rezultati hrvatskih športaša nažalost nisu adekvatno ni Secretary General of the financijski niti medijski valorizirani. I da nije bilo Sportske Croatian Olympic Committee televizije, naša javnost gotovo da ne bi ni znala da se „tamo negdje“ održavaju prve kontinentalne igre. I dok se Josip Čop, dipl. oec. ljudi fokusiraju na prošlost, hrvatski športaši (ponovo) pišu lijepe stranice hrvatske športske budućnosti. Naši mladi športaši pripremaju se za odlazak na Europski festival športske mladeži koji se potkraj srpnja održava u Tbilisiju (Gruzija). Želimo im sretan put i očekujemo da će ta priredba, osim svog športskog, natjecateljskog karaktera, imati i onaj edukativni. Svim športašima i ljubiteljima športa želim toplo ljeto i zasluženi odmor, a jesen će ponovo biti i te kako zanimljiva i puna novih športskih događanja u kojima će naši predstavnici, siguran sam, osvajati nova odličja širom svijeta.

I was present at the opening ceremony of the first continental, European Games in Baku. Everything, really everything was at the organizational level of the Olympic Games. The International Olympic Committee and - above all - the European Olympic Committees and the organizer, Azerbaijan and the city of Baku, can be truly proud of everything that was done. Accommodation of athletes, facilities, transportation, everything was perfect, so that the organizer of the following Games will have great difficulties to achieve such a high level of organization. I am sure that in the future the Games will be accepted as the most important continental competition of European athletes and that the international sports federations will shape – from now on - their systems of competition in such a way that makes the European games either a criterion or one of the criteria for participation at the upcoming Olympic Games. In that case, this competition would be a true, central junction of all the best and highest quality athletes from Europe. With 11 won medals our athletes have shown, for I do not know which time now, largely promotes our country, showing – on the other hand - that the results of Croatian athletes are, unfortunately, not adequately appreciated, neither financially nor by the media. And if there were no Sportska televizija (Sports television), our public would not even know that the first continental games are being held "out there". And while people focus on the past, Croatian athletes are writing, once again, the beautiful pages of the Croatian sports future. Our young athletes are preparing for participation at the European Youth Olympic Festival that will be held at the end of July in Tbilisi (Georgia). We wish them a safe journey and we expect that this event, in addition to the sports, competitive character, will also be of the educational one. All athletes and sports fans want a warm summer and a well-deserved vacation, and the fall will again be and how interesting and full of new sports events in which our representatives, we are sure to win new awards worldwide.
