Franko Grgić second in the selection for the Piotr Nurowski Award 2019

Godišnje nagrade dobilo je 12 eminentnih imena hrvatskog športa: Darko Berljak (planinar i promotor alpinizma), Vlaho - Mišo Asić i Zoran Roje (velikani vaterpolskog športa), Miran Martinac (liječnik, predsjednik Zdravstvene komisije HOO-a), Zdravko Reić (športski novinar), Laura Štefanac (europska prvakinja u bacanju koplja za gluhe osobe), Tomislav Krističević (dekan Kineziološkog fakulteta u Zagrebu), Klaudija Bubalo (vrhunska hrvatska rukometašica), Filip Grgić (olimpijac i trener taekwonda), Enrico Marotti (vrhunski jedriličar na dasci), Nikola Plećaš (vrhunski košarkaš) te hrvatska muška teniska reprezentacija (pobjednici Davisova kupa 2018.).

U finalnom izboru Nagrade Piotr Nurowski 2019. koju dodjeljuju Europski olimpijski odbori (EOO) najuspješnijim mladim športaši(ca)ma, drugo mjesto osvojio je najperspektivniji hrvatski športaš, 16-godišnji plivač Franko Grgić. Osim što je osigurao put na Olimpijske igre u Tokio 2020., ovaj je daroviti plivač u 2019. Franko Grgić godini osvojio naslove svjetskog & Jaroslava Mahučik juniorskog prvaka na 800 metara i na 1500 metara slobodnim stilom, disciplini u kojoj je postavio i novi svjetski juniorski rekord. Dva zlata donio je i s ljetnog Olimpijskog festivala europske mladeži u Bakuu na 400 i 1500 metara. Pobjednica izbora za Nagradu Piotr Nurowski za 2019. je 18-godišnja ukrajinska skakačica u vis Jaroslava Mahučik, koja je osvojila srebrnu medalju na svjetskom atletskom prvenstvu (204 centimetra), postavivši novi svjetski juniorski rekord.

“Sva lica športa”

U nazočnosti brojnih uglednika športa i hrvatskog gospodarstva, u Zagrebu je prosincu u organizaciji Hrvatske gospodarske komore (HGK) i suorganizaciji Hrvatskog olimpijskog odbora održana konferencija pod nazivom “Sva lica športa”.

In the final selection of the Piotr Nurowski Award 2019 presented by the European Olympic Committees (EOCs) to the most successful athletes, the most promising young Croatian athlete, 16-year-old swimmer Franko Grgić, won the second place. In addition to securing his ticket to the Tokyo Olympics 2020, in 2019 this young talented swimmer won the World Junior Champion titles in 800 M and 1500 M Freestyle, a discipline in which he also set a new world junior record. He also brought two golds from the European Youth Summer Olympic Festival in Baku in 400 M and 1500 M Freestyle. The winner of the Piotr Nurowski Award 2019 is 18-year-old Ukrainian high jumper Yaroslava Mahuchikh, who won a silver medal at the 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships (204cm), setting a new world junior record. Presentation of the Croatian Olympic Committee’s Almanac “Doping in Top Sports” In December, the Croatian Olympic Committee and its Medical Commission presented the Almanac “Doping in Top Sports” at the Westin hotel in Zagreb. The almanac was created as a result of a series of symposiums held by the Medical Commission over the past two years in Zagreb, Split, Osijek and Opatija and it contains a collection of responses and reflections on doping and the harms it brings, not only to individuals and sports, but also to society as a whole. Co-authors of this brilliant edition are world-renowned scientists such as Prof. PhD Boris Labar, one of the leading international scientists in the field of hematology, who offered his views on the use of doping in the topic “Anemic Hypoxia in Sports”; Head of the Croatian Olympic Committee’s Medical Commission Miran Martinac, MD emphasized in his thesis “The Importance of Constant Fight Against Doping” the importance of preserving the health of athletes and constant battle against doping, while the editor of the Almanac Mimi Vurdelja, Mag. Pharm. in the article entitled “Allowed Substances of Supplemental Nutrition”, advocates appropriate strictly individual nutrition, highlighting at the same time that there are numerous possibilities of using the permitted supplements in athletes’ diet. Doc. PhD. Dinko Pivalica elaborated in his thesis “Doping Control Procedure and Therapeutic Exemptions” the methodology of doping control, while legal aspect of fight against doping in the article “Certain Legal Doubts Regarding Doping” was presented by legal experts Hrvoje and Blanka Kačer who explained the problem of doping and fight against doping from a legal point of view - from subjective to objective guilt. Specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Vlasta Brozičević, MD wrote a thesis entitled “Doping, Anti-Doping and Mindsetbody by Reconditioning” dealing with the motives for use of doping and difference between the impact of doping on the future of athlete and top athlete. Chief Physician Zoran Manojlović and Damir Jemendžić, MD presented a list of prohibited substances on which the World Anti-Doping Code is based and the harmonization of fight against doping, as well as the role of the Croatian Institute for Toxicology and Antidoping and the World Anti-Doping Agency in the fight against doping. Athletes gave a special mark to the Almanac by emphasizing the importance of cleanliness of both spirit and body through their statements on doping - Blanka Vlašić, Sara Kolak (athletics), Filip Hrgović (boxing), Barbara Matić (judo) Kaja Ileš (handball), Josip Pavić (water polo), Josip Glasnović (shooting), Igor Boraska (rowing) and others. Besides the President of the Croatian Olympic Committee Zlatko Mateša, Head of the Medical Commission Miran Martinac and other distinguished medical names, the event was attended by numerous top athletes led by the Golden Olympians from Rio - the Sinković brothers, Josip Glasnović, and gymnast Tin Srbić, the current World Vice Champion.
