skiers, having fulfilled the condition of performance at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, must now be highlighted as prominent candidates for the Olympic Solidarity Scholarship for Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang (South Korea) in 2018. According to the estimate of the Croatian Ski Federation and Croatian Olympic Committee, they will succeed without any doubt. The Olympic Solidarity Scholarship in the amount of 1,500 USD per month is intended for training and competitions, and they will be receiving the scholarship from June 1st, 2014 until October 31st, 2016 when they will enter a new cycle of scholarships, where the relevant department of the COC for Olympic Solidarity programs led by Vesna Peran will take care of the same. Olympic education as scientific topic International Olympic Academy, under the leadership of the President Isídoros Kuvelos, who is also the President of the IOC Commission for Culture and Olympic Education, gathered at the 12th international meeting in ancient Olympia in Greece, held from May 11th-18th, more than 200 participants, mostly the directors of 144 National Olympic Academies operating within the World Olympic Movement, and central topic was education and Olympism in the society. Top lecturers – from university professors , scientists up to directors of the national academies, among which were also Sasa Ceraj, director of the Croatian Olympic Academy (HOA) and Head of COC Sports Abitrage Council Petra Pocrnic Perica - presented quite interesting points of view on the meaning of Olympism and its values, especially in terms of present days, in the time of exposure to the open or covert undermining of that what the Olympic values -such as the legacy of Pierre de Coubertin (18891937)- represent in education, peace, freedom and democracy and true understanding of the importance of their ethics. The importance of understanding the role of the International Olympic Academy and the network of National Olympic Academies for the world community, was confirmed by the fact that this topic was also presented - as a scientific issue - by the director of the Croatian Olympic Academy Sasa Ceraj, at the invitation of the organizers, at the 7th International Scientific Conference on Kinesiology, held under the auspices of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, from May 22nd- 25th in Opatija. Croatian preparations for the first European Games in Baku in 2015 Sports Europe is intensively preparing for the first major continental celebration of sports and Olympism – the European Games in Azerbaijan, Baku 2015. Based on the long-time-ago wish of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) to introduce the continental games – as it is in the worldwide practice – the first historic games will be held in about a year – from June 12th-28th 2015, and they will bring together approximately 6.000 athletes and around three thousand accompanying persons from 49 National Olympic Committees, members of the EOC. According to the estimates of the COC’s office for Olympic program, around 150 Croatian athletes could qualify for the European Games, all of them excellent and top athletes from 24 sports as per the program (the qualifications that began in January this year have already confirmed three obvious candidates from field of gymnastics) . To certain athletes, the Games in Baku in 2015 will be a crucial criteria for the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016. This refers to the athletics, cycling, beach volleyball, swimming, table tennis, shooting, taekwondo and triathlon. President of the COC Zlatko Matesa, one of the leading officials of the EOC, Secretary General of the COC Josip Cop and Assistant for the Olympic program Damir Segota, held on May 14th, 2014 the first meeting with the representatives of national sports federations, where they discussed this and other issues concerning the performance at the EG 2014 and agreed the dynamics of the preparation plan and performance.
