Professor Nicholson was a stalwart of the University of the West Indies and lived a life

of academic distinction. He served as Dean of the medical faculty 1992–1994, became Professor of Medicine in 1994 and Emeritus Professor in 2002.

Through his work in nephrology, he cared for hundreds of patients with lupus nephritis. He developed a special interest and rare expertise in this disease overall. His renal clinic also became the first lupus clinic as it would accumulate all patients with lupus including those without renal disease.

Professor Nicholson’s charitable work with the Hope Foundation was an extension of the professional life he developed to educate and uplift the population. There were countless public lectures and talks to newly diagnosed patients with lupus. The patients respected and appreciated his contribution and were buoyed by his counsel.
