Flemming Award for Excellence in Federal Service. The award is sponsored by The George Washington University and is given each year to federal government employees in the fields of Leadership and Management; Legal Achievement; and Sciences. Francesca received the award for her work as an appellate attorney at the Department of Justice, Tax Division, where she represents the United States in a variety of federal civil tax cases. Flavia Zara Scalzitti is in her fourth year of writing her food blog, “Flavia’s Flavors,” where she writes about and photographs primarily Italian recipes. Flavia is working to launch her own culinary instruction business to provide Italian cooking lessons and demonstrations. Claudia Pinilla Smith was named one of the Top 10 Designers to Watch in 2012 by Stationery Trends magazine. Her work has graced the cover of Stationery Trends and has been featured several times in top tier publications such as Martha Stewart Weddings, Brides Magazine, and Southern Weddings. She is currently in talks with Urban Outfitters and Paper Source about the possibility of those stores carrying her line of greeting cards and boxed sets. At this year’s National Stationery Show, her company, Fig. 2 Design, launched a special collection called the “Letters for Love Project” where, in collaboration with various calligraphers, Fig. 2 will donate a portion of the proceeds of each “Letters for Love” card sold to charity.

Giovanna Vidoli received her PhD in Anthropology in December 2012 and was hired as research assistant professor in the Department of Anthropology and assistant director of the Forensic Anthropology Center at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Shawna Jackman married Sebastian Gangi on April 20, 2013. Jessica Colburn, Alicia Groft, and Ginger King Shaw, all ’94 classmates, were able to celebrate at the wedding.

Vivian Maria Garcia-Arnold recently accepted a position with a general contractor based in Connecticut. She is working on a project in New Haven for the CT Department of Transportation and has moved to the coastal town of Milford, just one hour north of New York City. Christina Falo works at Columbia University Medical Center and is the director of clinical research in the Department of Neurology and Neuro-ICU. She and her husband live in Darien, CT with their two boys, Luke 2, and Julian 18 months. Christina recently heard from Laura Barrett (’93) who lives near her in Westchester County, NY. Laura is doing great and has a beautiful family. Catherine Jamet Powers is teaching two geology courses at Front Range Community College. Her husband, Peter, is working as a research scientist at the U.S. Geological Survey in Golden, CO. Their children, Marion 4, and Avie 3, are attending a Montessori preschool. Elizabeth (EB) Forst is living in Santa Monica and working at LA County/
USC Hospital as a travel sports orthopedic physical therapist. An avid triathlete and yogi, she spent the month of August traveling to Cambodia, Thailand, and Bali for a mix of yoga/meditation, diving and backpacking. Mary Margaret Reed and her husband, Andy, welcomed their fifth child, a girl, Margaret Katherine in March 2013.

Meg Zaragoza Velleca ’98, Mariel Sosa Cortese ’98, Mary Larson ’01, and Keagan Resler Lenihan ’98 threw a baby shower in May for Annie Larson Corcoran ’98, who gave birth to twins! Annie also has a twoyear-old boy, Thomas. Keagan Resler Lenihan had a son, Tallon William Lenihan, April 2, 2012. His godmother is Annie Larson Corcoran ’98. Julie Purcell Crafton and her husband, Matt, are excited to announce the birth of their son, William August Crafton, who joined their family on January 28, 2012. Julie works in public relations for the Napa Valley Vintners, and Matt is a winemaker in the Napa Valley. Maria Gabriela Brazley (Gabi Damiani) is pleased to announce the birth of her third child, Nina Maria Brazley, on May 25, 2013 along with her husband, Tony, and their other children, Camila and Jorge.
