Class of 1973
Beatrice Marin
I graduated from Hofstra with a BA in History and later with an MSEd in Secondary Education. The degrees and training I received from Hofstra not only influenced my career choices but also gave me the background that allowed me to work for many years as a corporate computer instructor in a large advertising and law firm in New York City, as well as in my current position as a computer instructor to the faculty and staff at Nassau Community College. My hobbies include ballroom and ballet dancing, and gardening. I have lived in Levittown my entire life and like to stay involved in community activities. This past October, I participated as one of the grand marshals in Levittown’s 75th anniversary parade. I have many fond memories of my time at Hofstra and look forward to attending the reunion.

I graduated from Hofstra with a BA in Drama. I have been married to Dr. Beth Ann Bilski-O’Grady for 37 years. After graduating from Hofstra, I earned a PhD in Mathematical and Statistical Economics from UC Berkeley. With great credit to my Hofstra professors, I continued through life to critically analyze the root causes of everything I encountered. During the PhD dissertation, I learned programming and database development, which became important tools and were natural with my math background. I am thankful I had such a wonderful career that started at Hofstra. I enjoyed my roles as a faculty representative to Hofstra’s Board of Trustees and as chairman of the Budget and Planning Committee, working closely with Clifford Lord, with whom I maintained a friendship until he passed away. Today retired, my hobbies include training my two dogs, cooking, baking, and mentoring people. At this stage in life, I just want to pass on any wisdom I developed and help others succeed and learn.

Elsie M. Szecsy
I graduated from Hofstra with a BA in German and later with an MSEd in Secondary Education. I went on to earn an MA in Comparative Literature and an EdD in Educational Administration. I moved to Arizona in 2001 after a more than 25-year career in Long Island public schools, to work in educational research and curriculum development at Arizona State University. My focus has been on educational leadership in culturally and linguistically diverse communities in the U.S. Southwest-Northern Mexico region. I am now an emerita professor. My hobbies include crafts, especially knitting, and gardening. I also serve as a volunteer for my church and with various nonprofit organizations remembering World War II-era nurses, those experiencing homelessness, and mariners away from family during Christmas. Hofstra provided me with a fine foundation for graduate study at NYU and finally Teachers College, Columbia University for an EdD in Educational Administration. I would not be so comfortably situated now were it not for formative experiences growing up on Long Island and being a Hofstra student. Thank you!
