We welcome Bolton Wanderers to The Abbey today for an exciting game in what I am sure will be a superb atmosphere. Both clubs will be pleased with the opening few games following our promotions last season and we know how tough a game it will be, understanding from our previous meetings and Bolton’s ambitions and expectations for this current season. Our game at Millwall on Tuesday was a good opportunity for some players to stake a claim for a starting spot today and important game time for those who need it, but just as crucially, a break for some of the players who have been playing a lot of late. We gave a good account of ourselves at The Den and were encouraged by how competitive we
were and the chances we created. Had we had a little more quality in our defensive play and transitions, we could have been in the game to an even greater extent, but I was pleased with many of the performances. We go into today’s game off the game of a successful Saturday last weekend and want to follow that with a similar performance in terms of spirit and organisation. The challenges keep coming in these early stages of the season and with a fourth consecutive Tuesday game next week, we have certainly had a busy start to the season. But players love games, and it gives us an opportunity to find flow and build momentum and we must continue trying to do that this afternoon. ■ www.cambridge-united.co.uk
