Welcome
Dear Parents, Guardians, Students and Staff,
Welcome to our 2023 Careers Convention. This is a biennial event which gives students the opportunity to meet with representatives from a wide range of career areas.
The main convention runs from 7pm to 9pm in the Taylor Building. You will find representatives from fields such as journalism, banking and finance, advertising, PR, technology, hospitality and many more, all keen to discuss their careers with you. Please take the time to find out about people’s different career paths – many of our exhibitors have had interesting careers with changes along the way. We are lucky to be joined by a number of successful entrepreneurs, for example, all of whom have interesting and varied backgrounds. We strongly encourage students to talk to representatives from fields they might be less familiar with, as well as those they know they are interested in.
For anyone considering degree apprenticeships as an option, we are also delighted that we have some apprentices joining us this evening.
Alongside the main convention, we have some talks and panel sessions taking place. We are very pleased to welcome graduate recruitment expert James Darley, who will be giving us an insight into what employers are looking for and how our students can give themselves a head-start. Doors to the Bourne Hall will open at 6.45pm and the talk will begin at promptly at 7pm. If you are unable to make it, this talk will be recorded and shared after the event.
In the Lime Tree Drama Studio, Magnus Djaba will be discussing his journey from Habs to becoming Global President of the world’s most famous advertising agency, Saatchi & Saatchi. There are also panel discussions taking place on
careers in science (Seldon Hall), and entrepreneurship (Aske Hall); and if you are not attending talks our exhibitors will be ready to speak to you all evening in the Taylor Building.
We are extremely grateful to all the exhibitors and speakers who have given up their time to share their expertise with you this evening. Please see pages 4 and 5 for a full list of exhibitors as well as details of all the talks and panel sessions on pages 6 and 7.
We hope you have a useful and enjoyable evening.
