With over a decade of success, GYEL exemplifies the UN’s broader mission of creating inclusive opportunities for youth to shape a sustainable and equitable future. The establishment of the United Nations in 1945 marked a turning point in history, emerging from the collective resolve of nations to ensure peace and prevent the devastations of global conflict. Founded with 51 member states, the UN set an ambitious agenda to uphold international peace, promote human rights, and advance social and economic progress. Over the decades, the UN’s role has expanded to address many global challenges, from poverty and inequality to climate change and technological innovation. Within this vast framework, GYEL embodies the UN’s forward-looking vision, ensuring that youth engagement remains central to its mission of global transformation. GYEL’s operations are strategically aligned with the UN’s overarching goals, recognizing the importance of youth as pivotal agents of change. The program empowers young leaders to actively contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through health, education, environmental sustainability, and innovation partnerships. These 17 interconnected goals provide a roadmap for addressing the world’s most pressing challenges by 2030, from eradicating poverty and hunger.
