HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE OF GUYANESE BROTHERS IN REGIONAL UNDER 19 COMPETITIONS By Charwayne Walker This year will mark 49 years since Regional youth cricket began. Although the inaugural Regional Youth Championship was called under 21, the players that participated were all under the 19 years age limit. Alvin Kallicharran captained the very first Guyana School Boys team in 1966 and playing alongside the skipper was his brother Stanley, which marked the beginning of a remarkable Guyanese trend that is unmatched at the Regional under 19 level. After the Kallicharrans feat in 1966, the other set of Guyanese brothers that played together were: • The Aarons; Keith and Julian in 1969 in Trinidad • The Nagamootoos; Mahendra and Vishal ,who played together from 1993 to 1995 • The Chinsammys; Michael and Andy ,who played together in 1994 • The Charles; Garfield and Roger in 1981 The Chattergoons; even though they did not play together, they are the only four brothers to have ever played for Guyana at the Regional under 19 level. Hemnarine in 1996, Sewnarine in 1991, 1998 and 1999, Ramnarine in 2000 and Harrinarine in 2010. From 1966 to 2015 Guyana has produced an impressive set of brothers that played at the Regional under 19 level. Could any other territory match this? Please find below the brothers that had the distinct honour of representing the Land of Many Waters at the Regional under 19 level. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •
