GVRNOW!

A Terrific Season For Gvr Members

After two seasons impacted heavily by the pandemic, nobody currently in Green Valley will be surprised to hear that snowbirds have returned in big numbers. If you’re here, you know the Safeway parking lot is again a menace and morning commutes need to be adjusted for the time it takes to make a left onto La Canada.

January at GVR included:

• 77 new GVR members (including two opt-ins)

• 120 courses offered

• 445 incoming tenants

• 613 event tickets sold

• 1,035 seats filled for movies

• 8,812 attendance reader swipes at pools (and we all know there were a lot of folks who forgot to swipe)

• 9,213 member visits to hobby shops (Ceramics, Clay, Computer, Photography, Glass Arts, Metal Arts, Santa Rita Art League, Woodworking, Lapidary)

• 17,574 attendance reader swipes in fitness centers

1,129 spaces were reserved, including:

• 65 for HOA meetings and socials

• 98 for GVR events, GVR governance, and outside rentals

• 253 for non-club member activities (games, exercise, socials)

• 272 for GVR classes

• 441 for club activities and meetings

At the time of this writing, February was set to surpass these numbers, and we expect March to be even busier.

As Frank Costanza would say, we’re back, babyyyy!

Letter from the President

By the time you read this, the 2023 Board of Directors election will be underway. Be sure to vote! Members in good standing should have received a voter code in the mail in the last week of February, and those with emails in their membership record should have received it again electronically on March 1 when the polls opened. The polls will close at 4pm on Thursday, March 23, and the results of the election will be announced shortly thereafter.

The Annual Meeting of the Corporation will occur on March 29 at 9am, at West Center. Board officers will be elected at this meeting. On April 5, in a Special Meeting of the Board of Directors, Committee Chairs will be selected.

GVR’s Board Committees do a great deal of valuable work researching, planning, and forwarding recommendations to the Board of Directors. If you have time and talents that could be of use to the Green Valley Recreation Board of Directors, please consider applying for a position on one of the following committees:

Board Affairs: Researches and drafts policy, reviews and recommends revisions to governing documents.

Fiscal Affairs: Reviews and assists in presenting the annual budget to the Board, monitors progress toward annual fiscal objectives, reviews and recommends related policy.

Planning and Evaluation: Reviews Club requests and other capital funding requests and makes recommendations that comply with the Strategic Plan, and Capital Plans.

Audit Committee: Oversees financial reporting processes and internal controls. Acts as the conduit between GVR and an independent auditing firm.

Nominations and Elections: Works with staff to manage the annual election.

Investments: Monitors the work of the contracted Investment Manager and makes recommendations to the Board concerning that relationship. Reviews and recommends changes to the Investment Policy. Reports to the Board on investment activities.

The application for prospective committee members can be found at www.gvrec.org under the Governance tab on the GVR Committees page. If you prefer paper, any Customer Service Representative can print it out for you. Submit your application via email to NanciM@gvrec.org, or drop off paper copies at the Administrative Offices at 1070 S. Calle de las Casitas. Applications are due Friday, April 14.

The Del Sol Clubhouse is now partially open for drop-in billiards play. All GVR members and authorized guests are welcome to enjoy three pool tables on the upper floor. Until the restroom renovation is completed, portable toilets and a hand-washing station are located near the front of the building.

Summer Closures

Each year after the snowbirds head north, GVR completes a number of scheduled maintenance and repair projects. These often entail facility or amenity closures. As contractors commit to dates, specific closure periods will be posted here in the GVR Now!, in the Friday eblast, and on-site near the amenities to be closed.

Early May: The upper deck of Santa Rita Springs will be repaired and recoated

Throughout the summer: HVAC units will be replaced at Canoa Hills, Canoa Ranch, East Center, and West Center.

Beginning in May, pool deck repairs and resurfacing will occur at Canoa Hills, Canoa Ranch, Desert Hills, and Las Campanas.

June 13–18: Wood floors will be reconditioned and resurfaced at Canoa Hills (Saguaro and Palo Verde Rooms), Las Campanas (Ocotillo and Agave Rooms, Racquetball Court), and Santa Rita Springs (Anza Room).
