Robert Franz composed 51 varied and contrasting settings of love poems written by his close friend Karl Wilhelm Osterwald, resulting in fascinating, bold and lyrical songs unique in the genre of 19th-century German Lieder. Hear these works performed by Guildhall musicians in this special recital which launches the new CD by Victoria Edge, bringing together this wealth of music for the first time.

A programme of song and chamber works celebrating the music of Guildhall School’s Head of Composition, Professor Julian Philips, in his 50th birthday year.
