--Sarah Nahabedian is the Program Director at the Block Island Maritime Institute. She is currently developing and implementing educational programs centered around the marine ecology and maritime heritage on Block Island. Nahabedian graduated with a BS in marine biology in 2009 from Roger Williams University and an MA in maritime archaeology in 2011 from Flinders University. Her Master’s thesis research investigated an unidentified wooden shipwreck in Saipan and the maritime activities surrounding this region during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Her thesis won the Maritime Archaeology Staff Award in 2011. Nahabedian has participated in a number of underwater and terrestrial archaeological field schools, projects and volunteer work around Australia and Saipan. She worked as a consulting archaeologist in Australia before returning to the United States.
