Joanne Eakin received a BA in Anthropology from the University of Maryland and an MA in Anthropology with a concentration in Bioarchaeology from the University of New Mexico, and has worked as an archeologist in the American Southwest and Micronesia. Her first encounter with Marianas archaeology was as an osteologist for the Manenggon Hills excavations in the interior of Guam in the early 1990s, and she later served as the staff archeologist for the CNMI Historic Preservation Office. She has participated in recovery and analysis of human skeletal remains from numerous archaeological excavations on Guam and the CNMI.
