NEWS OF THE ALUMNI ATLANTA Approximately 250 old and not so old graduates were on h a n d to participate in the Atlanta Club's annual " H a l l of F a m e " induction. E i g h t former Yellow J a c k e t s were welcomed into Tech's Hall b y D e a n George Griffin, Athletic Director Bobby D o d d a n d Coach Whack Hyder. Inductees were football greats Rufus Guthrie, Bobby Moorehead, Sam Hensley, J i m m y J o r d a n , Vance M a r e e a n d t h e late F r a n k Speer. T h e late Babe Roane, Tech's first basketball star and baseball's E d J o n e s were also inducted. T h e meeting was further honored b y t h e presence of J i m Luck, Tech's baseball coach, a n d B u d Carson of football.
AUGUSTA Approximately 90 Tech Alumni enthusiastically received Coach B u d Carson a t their annual spring meeting on M a r c h 15, 1971 in Augusta, Georgia. Coach Carson marked t h e occasion to introduce several members of h i s staff a n d to comment on the prospects for 1971 football season. T h e film "Highlights" of 1970 football was also shown to group, vividly stressing t h e spirit a n d desire of the 1970 football team. New officers were elected for the year 1971-72. These officials are: J i m m y Smith—president, Gene Cronic—Vice President, Bob Elliott —Secretary, J o h n Drew—Treasurer.
COLUMBUS T h e Greater Columbus Georgia Tech Club held a spring buffet Saturday, April 3, a t the Ralston Motor Hotel. A film on highlights of t h e 1970 Tech football season was shown. Following dinner, pantomimist Moon Larkin of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania presented a musical pantomime. This was followed b y dancing to t h e music of George Corradino. MACON T h e M a c o n Georgia Tech Alumni Club held a n alumni meeting Wednesday, M a y 5 a t the Idle H o u r Country Club. Coach B u d Carson, along with J a c k Thompson a n d J o e Popp, were in attendance. Coach Carson gave a 30-minute talk concerning Spring 1971 practice a n d t h e outlook for Tech's 1971 Football season. T h e r e were 148 people in attendance to hear Coach Carson's talk, and after his comments t h e 40-minute Highlights film o n t h e 1970 football season was shown. T w o Macon area entering freshm e n were awarded $500 scholarships for 1971, T h o m a s Gerald H u n n i c u t t and Richard Daniel Taylor. T h e scholarship, given every year to two outstanding high school graduates entering Tech, is awarded b y t h e Tech Alumni Association of M i d d l e Georgia. NASHVILLE Wallace Rogers a n d H a r r y Nichol left Nashville via plane Saturday morning, M a y 15 to fly to Atlanta to pick u p t h e food from t h e Varsity. T h e weather here was beautiful b u t between here a n d Atlanta, it was such that the plane had to turn around a n d come back. They were successful in obtaining a bigger, more adequately equipped plane a n d a n instrument pilot a n d
returned to Atlanta to land under .practically minimum clearance conditions. Arrangements h a d been m a d e whereby t h e food h a d been picked u p a t t h e Varsity by taxi a n d delivered to t h e airport. T h e food arrived here about 5:00 p.m. and the party started a t 6:45. W e h a d approximately 65 in attendance a n d you never saw chili dogs, hamburgers, P C a n d orange drink disappear any faster anywhere else except a t t h e Varsity itself. After eating we saw the Highlights film which was a truly great. As soon as t h e film was over, we gave everyone in attendance 40 bills (of fake money) which were used for one hour of casino activities. T h e t o p 15 winners were able to select, in order of biggest winner first, from prizes previously obtained from " T h e Robbery". Between the Highlights film a n d the Casino Night we read, with regrets, t h e letter from D r . Hansen resigning a s President of Georgia Tech. Needless to say, we a r e all quite disappointed t h a t D r . H a n s e n is leaving, b u t we wish him every success in his new endeavor a t Purdue. H. L. Whitehead President
