FACES IN T H E N E W S Gordon B. Cauble, '40, has been promoted to the rank of brigadier general in the U.S. Army, becoming the sixth general officer in the global ranks of the Strategic Communications Command. He is serving as deputy commander of STRATCOM.

Alvin Barge, '41, has been inaugurated as president of the Georgia Branch of the Associated General Contractors of America at its annual convention in Atlanta. He is president of Barge and Company, Inc., general contractors of Atlanta.

Andreas Duus, Jr., '43, has been appointed product manager in charge of foil mounting and film converting products at Polymer Industries, Inc. Before joining Polymer, he was with Olin Mathieson Co. Henry C. Steed, Jr., '43, has been named chief of the Office of Grants Administration of the Public Health Service's National Center for Urban and Industrial Health in Cincinnati. Peter J. Van Norde, '43, along with three physicians, conceived, planned and created a "Medical Park" in Wayne, New Jersey. The park was selected as one of the 10 outstanding buildings representing the cream of construction in New Jersey this year. A. James Hackl, '46, has been elected president and chief executive officer of Herff Jones Co., in Indianapolis. The firm manufactures high school and college class rings, graduation stationery, medals, awards, and yearbooks. Gordon H. Robertson, '47, has been elected assistant controller and director of systems and data processing of the Reynolds Metals Company, by the Board of Directors, ye previously was manager of the systems department and/director of the company's data processing. Robert J. Jordan, '48, has been promoted to executive vice-president of Choice-Vend, a Division of The Seeburg Corporation. He joined Choice-Vend in 1961 as sales manager and was soon moved to ' vice-president in charge of marketing and sales.

ALUMNI-CONTINUED James C. Senter, ME, died March 3. Irl W. Summerlin, ME, died March 30. Mr. Summerlin was president and owner of the Carolina Engineering Company at Chapel Hill, North Carolina. His widow resides at Route #2, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, 27514. M. L. Shadburn, CE, is now serving as executive director of the Georgia Crushed Stone Association. His offices are at 30 Pryor Street, 1039 Title Building, Atlanta, Georgia, 30303.

We recently learned that Sidney W. Garrison, CE, died December 19, 1967. Robert M. McFarland, Jr., Com., retired southeastern regional manager of the Insurance Information Institute, was recently honored at a luncheon in Atlanta. ' 0 « ~ I Ed Dodd, Creator of "Mark C-CL Trail" and outstanding conservationist, was declared "National Conservationist of the Year" by the National Wildlife Federation. Mr. Dodd makes his home in "Lost Forest," a 130-acre tract near Sandy Springs, Georgia. Lumry, GE, died January 27. Mr. Lumry was retired from Georgia Power Company as a machinist. J. Lester Moore, Sr., Com., retired credit manager of Atlanta Newspapers, Inc., died April 20. His widow resides at 381 Windsor Parkway, N.E. Frank Newton, EE, will become executive vice president of South Central Bell on July 1. Mr. Newton is currently vice president of Southern Bell Telephone Company in Alabama. Dr. Roy Y. Shaw died recently.

DeFore, ME, has reC. t j cently retired from Deering Milliken, Inc., after 21 years of service at Excelsior Clemson Mill, a division of Deering Milliken. On the date of his retirement from Excelsior Clemson Mill, the name of the mill was changed to DeFore Mill. We recently received notice that George H. Roberts died February, 1968. L. Ralph Wright, Jr., T E , an executive in local metal and plastic firms and a real estate developer in Buckhead, Georgia, died April 13. He is survived by a widow who resides at 3370 Valley Circle, N.W., Atlanta, and two sons; William Ralph Wright, ChE '54, and Joseph J. Wright, IE '59. ' Q f ~ | William B. Dunbar of AtO U lanta, Georgia, died April 20. Survivors include his mother and sister. Sidney Goldin, ChE, a vice president of Asiatic Petroleum Corporation, has accepted an appointment as a member of the executive committee of the Highway Research Board. Mr. Goldin will serve for a three-year term which began January 1, 1968. Connally F. McCutcheon, a tool dispatcher at the Lockheed-Georgia Company, died March 11.

Lindholm, Com., has recently retired after 40 '33 years' service with the Fulton National Bank of Atlanta. He is now on the faculty of Emory University in The Georgia Tech Alumnus
