DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE KEVIN MITCHELL Director, Grapevine Parks and Recreation KMitchell@grapevinetexas.gov Welcome to the Spring 2020 Go Grapevine Magazine! It’s wild to think we will soon be entering into a new decade. When I reflect back on the past 10 years, Grapevine has seen significant growth. I am proud to work and live in such a flourishing City. Being a Parks & Recreation professional for the last 20+ years, I have seen a whole lot of change. The Parks & Recreation Department is proud to be a part of many ongoing and future City of Grapevine projects, such as Settlers Park, Dallas Road Corridor & the Cotton Belt Trail extension. The year 2019 did not disappoint for Parks & Rec and definitely kept staff moving in high gear all the way through. One highly-anticipated project that was recently wrapped up was the opening of the long-awaited Bark Park at Bear Creek Park. The ribbon cutting event in November was a huge success and we hope you and your pups are enjoying using the park. A very special project that was kicked off this year was the brand new Adaptive Recreation Program, “Club All-Access.” This program is geared towards adults 18+ years and is designed to bring out positive emotional, social, physical and cognitive changes in individuals with adaptive needs. We are very proud of how far it has come in just a few short months and are eager to continue to make an impact on the community. Thank you for your continued support with our new registration software, Amilia. After having the same software for over 20 years, there has been a learning curve, but we appreciate all of the support and feedback. Be on the lookout for a NEW online citizen survey coming out soon, we encourage your participation! We really do listen and read every single comment/remark and put it into action. We hope you and your families have a safe & Merry Christmas! Keep up with Grapevine Parks & Recreation’s latest news and events by following us on social media. Warm Regards, Kevin Mitchell

ENVIRONMENTAL LECTURE SERIES WATER IS AWESOME!

Can you imagine what life would be like without water? It is not a pretty picture. Fortunately, investments in water have given us the quality of life we have today. Increased population, potential drought and water quality concerns are putting pressure on future water supplies but there are things we can all do to help keep water on tap. This lecture will focus on regional water supplies, future growth, why water is awesome, and everyday resources to save water at your home. Date: Wednesday, January 22 Location: The REC of Grapevine Time: 7:00 - 8:00 pm Registration: GoGrapevine.com/ JanLecture

IS YOUR WATER BILL TOO HIGH? Consider these tips to lower your cost.

CLEAN AIR SOLUTIONS

In 2018, ten counties in North Texas (including Tarrant County) were designated as nonattainment for the pollutant ozone, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The Air North Texas campaign was created to help alleviate the air quality problem in our region. Come learn how the region has made significant progress since, about the Clean Air Act and how you can take action and improve air quality. Date: Wednesday, February 26 Location: The REC of Grapevine Time: 7:00 - 8:00 pm Registration: GoGrapevine.com/ FebLecture
