Laden with treasures and an air of anticipation, intrepid explorers crossed continents, paving the way for the Silk Road. Trading a new and exciting blend of goods and stories, tastes and sense opened up to a world of intriguing and exotic delights. For more than 1,000 years the Silk Road has linked Asia with the Mediterranean Sea, surrounded by regions remarkable for their textural heritage and bordered by the Caspian Sea, from which this collection takes its name. Igniting imaginations and a sense of adventure, the romance of faraway places captured in printed cottons, warp-printed silks and hand painted papers have influenced the way we decorate our homes. These cherished items have inspired Sanderson Caspian, a captivating collection new for SS20. Featuring three beautiful embroideries, nine authentic prints, eight dramatic weaves and 13 striking wallpapers, Caspian’s dynamic colour palette is influenced by natural dye colours such as Madder, Indigo, Turmeric and Saffron running through to the subtle tones of Linen, Ivory and Charcoal. Incorporating a blend of new and archive designs on natural cloths, technique rich prints and the finest embroideries sit alongside wallpapers enhanced by subtle mica and metallic highlights. Rebecca Craig, head of design at Sanderson says, “Caspian is a celebration of country house style and the impact trade routes, specifically the Silk Road, have had on design. We’ve included a glorious mix of cultural styles from Chinoiserie to Uzbek and from Indian to English country house, fusing exotic influences with a fluid versatility. One of the great things about this collection is that it’s open to interpretation, allowing customers to create their own unique look from the colours, chintzes, ikats, Indo-Persian miniatures and Ottoman embroideries that led the way for a more playful and opulent approach to interior decoration.” The launch comprises three books: Caspian Wallpapers, Caspian Fabrics and Caspian Weaves
