In 1974, David and Molly Finley moved to Dalton, Georgia, from Maryville, Tennessee, and settled into managing this quaint downtown jewelry store. Shortly after, Watch Repairman, Pat Tanksley, joined David and Molly. Together, the three purchased the store and established the small-town business Maryville Jewelers is today. In 1998, David and Molly’s youngest son, J.T. Finley, became a part of the family jewelry business. Today, J.T. Finley owns and operates Maryville Jewelers, preserving the loyalty and legacy his parents created.

As in true mom-and-pop fashion, Maryville Jewelers has maintained their sense of community even amidst expansion. Although the downtown store has grown in size through the years, it continues a strong tradition of customer service, the highest quality jewelry, and unmatched friendliness, all of which are principles that have guided Maryville Jewelers since 1974. Maryville Jewelers’ longtime employees bring the warmth of a family atmosphere and the

rapport with Dalton’s community-centered environment. Some of Maryville Jewelers’ employees have been supporting the business for more than thirty years. It is their concern for customers that owner, J.T. Finely, gives credit for the success of the business. “Maryville Jewelers has thirdgeneration customers, and it is wonderful to see the same familiar faces,” said Finely.

This sense of loyalty was demonstrated during the most uncertain time of the Covid-19 pandemic. Many customers begun reaching out to Maryville Jewelers, asking if it was possible to mail in jewelry for repairs—whether that be rings that needed resizing or stones that needed care. Customers were reaching out via email and messaging, requesting help! Fortunately, this high demand of customer attention allowed Maryville Jewelers to re-open after only two weeks of closure. Even during that temporary closure, Maryville Jewelers was still accepting customer consultations by appointment. “The requests for consultations were so high, Maryville Jewelers had to re-open. We couldn’t stay closed,” said Finely.

Today, Maryville Jewelers is the name individuals trust—even from far away! Out of town customers call Finely whenever they are in need of a special gift for their spouses and will even mail their jewelry to the store for repairs. “Some out of state customers stop into the shop whenever they are in town. Everyone has heard the name Maryville for so long, and people trust it” said Finely. Maryville Jewelry offers full-service jewelry repair, in house custom engraving, and appraisals. Bridal wear is among Maryville Jewelers’ most alluring showcase collection. Over the last two years, as lab created diamonds increased in popularity, Maryville Jewelers has begun offering both synthetic and natural diamond selections. Finely and his team of employees are always staying ahead of the trends—including the resurgence of traditional style engagement rings, stackable bands, and the demand for yellow gold metal.
