Water for the Soul

On extremely hot days, when the sun feels like it’s playing a game of hot potato with us, the heat makes you glad that you have access to water— whether it’s to drink, swim, or shower in. Too often, we take for granted the things that we are blessed with, things that others may not have.

The sun is bearing down on you, and it is trying to make you feel like it’s impossible to do anything. This is the same way that the devil works by making you think that you cannot go on or that you’re not good enough. However, just as water helps replenish what the sun has taken from you, this is the same way that the Lord works—by restoring your faith, carrying you through, and letting you know that He will always be here for you.

The Bible tells us in Isaiah 43:2, “When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.”

Here the Lord is telling us that He will never leave us nor forsake us, as He will refresh us and not let us be over taken by the trials in life. Do you ever stop to think that water has no taste, no color, and no odor? This is how God’s love and grace is too. You cannot taste His love, it has no color, and you cannot smell it. This is how God meant for it to be so that it is equally given to everyone and has the same benefit for all those who accept it.

Just as water is meant to refresh your thirst on a hot day, so the love and grace of Jesus is meant to restore your soul. In the Bible, it tells us this in John 7:38, “He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.”

Water does not resist, it flows. Water always goes where it wants to, and nothing in the end can stand against it. Dripping water can wear away a rock, and when faced with an obstacle, water can go around it. I feel like this is how God works for us. God does not resist our love; He takes our love freely. His love will not stop, as He gives it freely. His love can go anywhere He chooses, and when we accept God into our heart, nothing can stand against us.

When we face life’s challenges with the love and faith of knowing that God is on our side, we can go around those obstacles. Anything in life that has roots will find water, and it will always move toward what strengthens it. This is why we become stronger in our faith when we believe in our hearts and accept Jesus as our savior. We begin to look at things in a different way and become happier.

Just like God’s Word tells us in Isaiah 12:3, “Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.” So, just like a river surrenders to the path that it is going down, once we accept Jesus in our hearts and surrender to the will of God, things will begin to flow as they should in our life.

God tells us this in John 4:14, “But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” Don’t be in a rush, wait on God, and He will supply the water. “He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters” (Psalms 23:2).
