Dr Ken Cato is an Australian designer with an international reputation. He is Chairman of Cato Brand Partners, established in Melbourne in 1970 and with offices throughout Australia and across the world. Ken acts as the Chairman of the 2014 Premier’s Design Awards Judging Panel. As a graphic designer, his work has earned him an international reputation and encompasses all facets of corporate and brand management and design. He has won numerous international and Australian design awards and his work is represented in museums and galleries throughout the world. He is a long-standing member of Alliance Graphic Internationale and is a past AGI President (1997 – 2000). The world’s largest student design conference was founded by Ken Cato in 1991. For more than twenty years, agIdeas International Design Week now attracts annually over 4,500 young designers and over 40 speakers from around the world. In 1995, Ken was awarded the first Australian Honorary Doctorate of Design from Swinburne University and was inducted into the ‘Hall of Fame’ of the inaugural Victorian Design Awards. Ken is a foundation member of the Australian Writers and Art Directors Association, a member of the American Institute of Graphic Arts, ICOGRADA, Design Institute of Australia (Hall of Fame inductee in 2005), Australian Marketing Institute, Industrial Design Council of Australia, and is Patron of the Australian Academy of Design. In 2006, Ken was awarded the Victorian Premier’s Award for Design Leadership and in 2009 was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Executive Board of ICOGRADA. In 2011, Ken was awarded an Honorary Fellowship from Monash University and in 2012 was also inducted into the AGDA Hall of Fame. In 2013, Ken received an Officer of the Order of Australia award in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

One of Austria’s most talented and awarded designers and educators, Cordula Alessandri is well known for her distinctive work in packaging, corporate identity, wine and food labels, annual reports, publications and websites. Since founding her own studio, alessandridesign in 1987, Cordula has since enjoyed enduring success and won numerous awards, including the Austria National Award for Book Design, the European Design Award, ADC of Austria awards, ADC of Europe awards, ADC New York awards, TDC Tokyo awards, Best Calendar Awards, Golden Label Awards, Red Dot Awards and a Golden Pixel Gold Award. Cordula became a member of Alliance Graphique Internationale in 2003.

John Bielenberg is a designer, entrepreneur and imaginative advocate for a better world. He is the founder of Project M and co-founder of Future Partners, a company that helps companies and organisations unlock their ingenuity to solve their greatest challenges. John delights in helping people find the courage and sense of humour to bring their stories, ideas and ingenuity out into the world. Believing that ‘thinking wrong’ can lead to creative success, his design philosophy is ‘be bold, get out, think wrong, make stuff, bet small and move fast! Through Project M, John inspires and educates young designers, writers, photographers and filmmakers by proving that their work, and “wrong” thinking, can have a positive impact on their communities. In 2013, John was awarded the AIGA Gold Medal, the highest honour of the design organisation. It is one of more than 250 awards he has received throughout his career. The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art has acquired six of his design projects.

Tony is a designer, publisher, collector and curator, founding design studio, Spin, in 1992 and the publishing company Unit Editions in 2009. A multi-disciplinary studio, Spin is built primarily for the creation of innovative contemporary identities. However the studio’s work in print, motion graphics and digital media has also won many awards and is regularly featured in many blogs, books, magazines and exhibitions. Making books by designers for designers, books published by Unit Editions so far include monograph’s on Herb Lubalin, FHK Henrion and Ken Garland. They recently published ‘Manuals’ a celebration of corporate guideline manuals from the golden era of identity design. The books are designed by Tony and Claudia Klat at Spin.
