We're halfway through summer already! Lately, I've been busy sorting out my parents' estate and closing up the sale of their home. It’s been a real education for me.
However, I've also taken the time to enjoy the season, especially my trip to Nashville for the CMA Fest. If you're into country music like me, check out my article in this issue where I talk about the festival.
To add a little magic to our Summer, spending time with my three-year-old grandson has been amazing. Whether we're hanging out at home or having fun at Canada's Wonderland, seeing him discover new things is like reliving my own childhood. After a long winter with boys in rep hockey, my friends and I were ready for a relaxing summer getaway! Blue Mountain Village seemed like an ideal destination for us to enjoy with our kids. It’s a beautiful, scenic drive from K-W to Collingwood, getting you to the Village in under two hours.

Imagine a lively comedy set in Renaissance England, where everyone's talking about Shakespeare. "Something Rotten!" at the Stratford Festival brings this era to life with lots of laughs, dancing and music.

The actors, especially Mark Uhre & Henry Firmston as brothers Nick & Nigel Bottom, bring a lot of humour to their roles, not to mention the hilarious & memorable character Thomas Nostradamus, played by Dan Chameroy.
The story is about Nick Bottom, who is tired of Shakespeare getting all of the accolades and attention. He and his brother Nigel set out to create the world's first musical, and their adventures are both funny and heartwarming.
The music and dancing featured in the show is catchy and fun, mixing different styles to create lively songs that make you want to dance in your seat. The beautiful costumes and sets really capture the feeling of being in Renaissance England.

3 cups of flour
2 cups of sugar
2 teaspoons of baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
In another bowl,
2 eggs
3/4 cup milk
1/2 pound melted cold butter
1 cup granola
1 cup of diced walnuts
1 cup of coconut
Put mixture into baking cups in well greased muffin tins. Add granola and banana chips to top of mixture to add more crunch and taste.
INSTRUCTIONS
To get a wonderful crunchy crust and a great rise on these muffins, bake for 8 minutes at 425 degrees. Then reduce heat to 350 cooking for another 8-9 minutes.
They are absolutely delicious!!!

Nashville, known as Music City, comes alive in June during the CMA Fest, drawing music enthusiasts from around the world. My partner and I attended this year’s festivities and took in the beautiful southern charm we eagerly anticipated.
Here’s how to make the most of your trip beyond the festival itself:
Choose
your location
Upon arrival, settle into a hotel, ideally, if you have the budget, close to downtown Broadway. During CMA Fest, prices are astronomical for a downtown venue. We chose to stay near Opryland and ventured downtown using Uber or Taxi.
Visit Broadway
This famous street is lined with honky-tonks and live music venues, offering an authentic taste of Nashville's music scene. Spend the afternoon hopping between bars, enjoying performances by local artists and soaking up the lively atmosphere. Broadway is PACKED during CMA Fest but we enjoyed venturing into the honkytonks during the day.
If you up for diversity, a few short blocks away you can find Printer’s Alley. The nightclubs opened here in the 1940s, and the alley became a showcase for the talents of performers such as Boots Randolph, Chet Atkins, Waylon Jennings, Dottie West, The Supremes, Hank Williams, Barbara Mandrell, and Jimi Hendrix. Today’s nightclubs are the descendants of the saloons, speakeasies, and clubs which developed into the entertainment district still known as Printers Alley.
Get an early start and head downtown to Fan Fair X where you can meet artists, try out new gear, and enjoy interactive exhibits. Head outside to explore the downtown CMA stages. Enjoy live music with thousands of other country music fans. Watch various record label accounts to get into exclusive shows happening on rooftops within the core of downtown Nashville.
Food and Drink Experience
Book your tickets early to enjoy nightly performances at Nissan Stadium. The stadium hosts the best in country music and is a broadcast for a later date. Since this is a broadcast, expect an amazing night, ah-ha moments, and delays in performances.

The Old Town Trolley provides a much needed break after miles of walking from stage to stage. They offer unlimited hop-on & hop-off as often as you like all day long. It’s a great experience where you can explore Nashville and learn about its history.
Whether you danced on Broadway, met or listened to your favourite artists at CMA Fest, or explored the city’s cultural and culinary delights, you’ve experienced the best of Music City.
