Drawing Cabaret Couture was founded by professional dancer & model Janet Mayer of J'adore La Vie, London's high fashion Cabaret, and artist & set designer Matthew Lawrence. And a few weeks ago I was invited to one of their live sessions over Zoom to a first hand experience of their Salvador Dali inspired live drawing class. If you thought that life drawing was a thing of the past, considering the COVID constraints - you were mistaken. With this online live event you get the opportunity to be creative from the comfort of your own home. The sessions are two and a half hours long, and every week you have the opportunity to join a different themed event. The event I attended was inspired by Salvador Dali’s work, the Haute Couture was designed by Zoe Sujin Lee, and the editorial photography was done by Matthew Lawrence. I find their creative team extremely professional, the clothes full of colour and perfectly representational of Dali’s

work. The incredible jewellery pieces the model was wearing, the cage she used as an accessory along with the stilts she was on elevated the looks even further. Entering into the live drawing event I was very hesitant, I was scared whether my art background, especially for someone who has not done a single live drawing class in 4 years, would be enough to step up to the challenge. But once the event started I quickly picked up and saw that people from different skill levels were attending and overall it was really easy to just draw, paint and have fun with it. When you get into the right mindset which usually takes about 10-15 minutes you can really let your creativity flow free, and their wonderful work accompanied by the subtle background music, really helped convey a story.
