As easy as a snapshot or as complicated as a masterpiece, learn what it takes to capture a moment in time. Whether you’re looking to learn the traditions of the darkroom (we have one of the few publicly accessible, still functioning in the area) or master your newest high tech DSLR, we will gladly introduce you to the language and techniques of photography. Come join us as we capture the beauty of everyday life.

INTRO TO DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY with Daniel Lobdell

STREET PHOTOGRAPHY with Margo Reed 6 Wednesdays May 11 - June 15 5:30-8:30pm

Our instructor Margo will guide you through the process of street photography, including street photography ethics and composition, basics of general photography, and camera operation, as well as an overview of developing film and darkroom use. The class will include plenty of time to work with the instructor, and culminate in a critique of the work you make over the 6-week session. A camera will be provided; you may need to purchase paper for this class after the first 1-2 weeks.

Your photographic journey starts here! Learn to use all the functions of your camera, manual controls for available light photography, and how to compose a beautiful photograph. After capturing images, learn to use basic computer tools for photo editing techniques. This will be a fine art course that will emphasize the making of well-crafted and expressive images. Please bring your own digital camera to class.

INTERMEDIATE DIGITAL PHOTO: EXPLORING PHOTOSHOP with Daniel Lobdell

INTRO TO FILM PHOTOGRAPHY with Daniel Lobdell 5 Tuesdays July 5 - Aug. 2 10am-1pm This course will introduce you to the basics of fine art black and white film photography. Topics covered will include camera technique, film development, and black and white gelatin-silver printing. Personal vision and subject interest will also be emphasized. Class sessions will consist of lectures, technical demonstrations, group darkroom work, and positive and supportive critique sessions. A camera will be provided; you may need to purchase paper for this class after the first 1-2 weeks.

5 Sundays July 10 - Aug. 7 2-5pm Learn to work with more complex lighting situations including indoor light, mixed light, night photography, use of flash, and HDR photography. We will then perfect these images with advanced post-production techniques in Adobe Photoshop. We will emphasize the exploration of subject interest and the development of personal body of work as themes for this class. $210 / $178.50 (member)

Use your cell phone to take amazing photographs with only clip-on lenses, easily accessible lighting sources, and various phone apps. Make your own creative choices by shooting through objects and using other various modifiers and household items to learn creative photography skills. Bronwen will guide you to use your phone in a manual camera capacity. You should have your smartphone and clear/transparent items that can be found around your home, such as glass objects, glasses, prisms, colored cellophane, etc. on hand.

BOTANICAL BLUEPRINTS: INTRO TO CYANOTYPE with Isla Gordon Sunday May 15 12-3pm You don’t need to be an experienced artist to enjoy making beautiful cyanotypes! In this introductory class you’ll learn all the basics of this amazing alternative photographic technique. Using light sensitive chemicals you’ll expose prints in the sun and process them in water. By the time you leave you’ll have some gorgeous 8x10 blueprints and the know-how to create more at home. Lots of beautiful plants are budding and blooming. Let’s celebrate the natural world by making botanical blueprints together! Class will be held in GoggleWorks’ Gardens at Lauer’s Park. $45 / $38.25 (member)

SOLAR FAST T-SHIRT WORKSHOP with Isla Gordon Saturday June 25 12-3pm

DIY LIGHTING with Bronwen Hazlett Session A: Saturday June 4 12-4pm Session B: Saturday July 23 12-4pm Join our instructor Bronwen for a crash course in DIY lighting techniques. Create photos and lighting setups using continuous light sources, natural light, and lighting available to you at home, as well as other various household objects. These lighting techniques will help you to produce a variety of beautiful photographs. You should bring your DSLR or smart phone and objects you’d like to photograph.

Join us to add a pop of color to your wardrobe and create a unique T-shirt with vibrant colors from non-toxic dyes. Using an alternative process photographic technique, your instructor will guide you through creating silhouetted images on T-shirts. GoggleWorks will supply a limited amount of objects; please bring your own additional objects to make the design your own. One white T-shirt is included per registration. $45 / $38.25 (member)
