Directors' Note and Special Thanks

It is difficult to recreate a show as groundbreaking and iconic as The Lion King. When some of our eighth graders pitched it to me last year, at first I was hesitant. This year's middle school students have taken on the challenge and captured the charism that is at the heart of this story - "Option for the Poor - Standing Side by Side as Family." This is a story of birth, community and how we are all deeply connected in the circle of life. However, this production is not the Lion King you're used to. You will see the animal kingdom come to life onstage through Mrs. Bent's beautiful costumes, the world of the African savanna animated through Ms. Brown's artful scenery, and the lovable characters reimagined by our own middle school students.

I'm also incredibly proud of the work our art department contributed to this production. The Upper School Textiles class created the headpieces you will see onstage. It is always a pleasure to work with our middle school cast and crew. I get a front row seat to the future of the arts here at Gilmour and it is bright!

Thank you for supporting our students and we hope you enjoy The Lion King Jr.!
