Gerald Fogel, a native of Concord, California, has built an impressive legacy over his three-decade career as a firefighter and paramedic. His journey in public service began at the Contra Costa Consolidated Fire Protection District, where he started as a volunteer reserve. His dedication and expertise in emergency response quickly propelled him forward, leading to a distinguished career marked by leadership and commitment to saving lives. In 1984, Gerald graduated from Paramedic school, leading to an Emergency Paramedic position with American Medical Response. His capabilities in this demanding role soon caught the attention of the Fremont Fire Department, and in 1985, he was recruited into their first-ever class of firefighters/paramedics. This dual role allowed him to maximize his fire management and medical response training. His potential was undeniable, and he was swiftly promoted to Fire Captain/Paramedic. He later expanded his responsibilities to include the role of Operations Staff Captain, where he oversaw various programs that enhanced the services provided by the fire department to the community of Fremont. Even after retiring from active duty, Gerald could not leave the field he loved. He continued to lend his expertise to the Foresthill Fire Protection District, where he helped shape the organization by mentoring new firefighters and providing strategic advice. Throughout his career, Gerald also worked as an EMT with Pomeroy Ambulance Services and later as a medic at the Concord Pavilion, managing emergency care at major public events for over a decade. His dedication to emergency medical services extended his participation as a communications specialist with the Urban Search and Rescue California Task Force 4, responding to disaster sites nationwide.
