ZESHAWN BABER ’00 Young Alumni and Loyalty Challenge* Donor

If you take a moment to reflect on how your life has played out, I guarantee that George School will stand out. I want to give back to a place that gave me so much.

How did George School influence who you are now? I started carving out my identity in high school. Friends in college did it there, but the experience of living in the George School dorms with students from all walks of life, from different countries, had already helped me figure out who I was and the things that mattered to me. Knowing who I was allowed me to try new things. I learned that I was a self-starter. As an entrepreneur, the whole creative process begins and ends with me. Be yourself and do what makes you feel alive. I have George School to thank for that. I have never been around so many great individuals with so many great life experiences. Before this year, you hadn’t given regularly to George School. What changed? So much was going on. I made a mistake. I forgot where I came from. You think that keeping up with your friends is enough. Talking with Steve Jo ’90—we’re pretty good friends on Facebook—took me down memory lane. It hit me hard. George School was a huge force behind who I am. If it weren’t for my George School experience, I wouldn’t be in the position I am, so passionate about what I’m doing. I saw what initiatives were provided when I was there, so I gave to technology at the school since it’s really important to me. Giving will ensure the success of a special place. And I’m all for beating Westtown in a friendly, dignified, adult way. Why should other young alumni give? George School is really big on reflection. If you take a moment to reflect on how your life has played out, I guarantee that George School will stand out. I want to give back to a place that gave me so much. That’s how things should work, no matter how much money you have.

Zeshawn received a BA in Law and Society from Purdue University, worked in finance, and attended medical school before realizing he was meant to be an entrepreneur. With a friend, he started Sinque Labs, a pharmaceutical consulting company in San Diego but has returned to his native Chicago, where his enterprises have expanded to include a nightlife iPhone app (Hoppin) and a real estate marketing platform (Property Line). * The Loyalty Challenge is modeled after the annual George School-Westtown rivalry known as the Patterson Cup or “The Moose.” The challenge is an annual-giving participation competition between recent graduating classes of the two schools, with the winning school receiving the coveted Machemer Cup for the year.
