2018 FALL PRODUCT PLANNER Wheatstone Upgrades ScreenBuilder Version 2.0 is a major upgrade for virtual studio tools development platform
Wheatstone says that virtualizing resources instead of limiting them to fixed hardware makes sense for a whole host of station duties. But what if radio stations could develop their own unique virtual studio that could not only take into account all types of user interfaces, but also, for example, be able to assign the correct bus by scanning the channels on a console for a certain codec? Wheatstone’s ScreenBuilder 2.0 is a virtual development platform that includes scripting tools and GUI for developing virtual news editing desks, producer workstations, control panels and other virtual interfaces and workflows for the WheatNet-IP networked studio. ScreenBuilder was introduced in 2014, but new from Wheatstone is a major software release for the virtual development platform that includes, among other features, new scripting for capturing RSS news, sports and weather feeds. ScreenBuilder’s development toolset includes faders, buttons, timers and other widgets that can be assigned scripting values for triggering events or for monitoring and controlling elements in the network. These can tie into LIOs anywhere in the network for controlling devices and their settings, and salvos can be created based on the status of tallies or a cross point connection, for example. ScreenBuilder scripting ranges from basic commands for adjusting levels and turning on or off mics, to more complex routines such as determining the source connected to a fader and then displaying the name of that source on the screen. As a virtual development platform unique to WheatNet-IP audio network, ScreenBuilder uses WheatNet-IP elements, routing and intelligence to automate workflows and to create windows into any function along the network for any number of purposes, from transmitter control to signal monitoring. Powerlite DCR-T enters HD Radio and LPFM markets Antenna-maker Dielectric says it has adapted its Powerlite DCR-T antenna for the special needs of HD Radio and LPFM broadcasters. The key, according to the company, is added control of directionality.
The circularly polarized DCR-T directional antenna is offered as a cost-effective solution for low-to-medium power FM and translator stations, which traditionally required a far more expensive antenna in designs typical of higher power operations, to meet directional pattern requirements. Dielectric says this is possible because special software reduces antenna costs and production lead times, and with most FM translator directional antenna requirements, significantly reduces the price of the FCC proof of performance. The software that provides the proof of performance data required to confirm directional pattern compliance, as opposed to the traditional method of verifying patterns with physical scale models. Dielectric Sales Manager Steven Moreen said, “The ring-style design of the DCR-T antenna, with its stable axial ratio independent of impedance tuning, is an ideal platform on which to add directional signal control. And, given the efficiency at which Dielectric can produce these antennas, the antenna can be delivered within weeks as opposed to months, along with the associated FCC proof of performance.” The company adds that the DCR-T’s broadband capability offers enough bandwidth to accommodate HD Radio signals alongside analog FM, with in-field channel adjustments should channels change. The low-profile design offers less wind resistance. An optional radome is available. Info www.dielectric.com

2018 FALL PRODUCT PLANNER iMediaTouch Enterprise Implements Rain Delay Feature New feature solves program hangups OMT says that its iMediaTouch Enterprise Rain Delay feature eliminates the need to manually change Sunday programming in the case of a rain delay in NASCAR, baseball, etc. If the PD, or some other staffer, has been coming in on Sundays or remoting in to make changes to the schedule because of a rain delay, iMediaTouch Enterprise and the rain delay feature is the solution. Here is how it works. When the announcement that a rain delay has been issued and the provider sends out a rain delay closure, the NASCAR feed is deactivated and a rain delay log (created earlier) commences. The rain delay log consists of a sequential list of local digital items including commercials. Commercial spots would still appear in the .OUT file for validation purposes. When a rejoin closure is sent from the provider, the rain delay log stops and the NASCAR feed becomes active from the same point in the main log and proceeds with the regular scheduled log items. Cortex360 Remote Site Management System
The Next Generation of Remote Site Management System
T
o continue growing and adding the many features requested by our extensive user-base, Davicom has redefined a hardware platform that will enable product evolution well into the future. We are, therefore, very excited to present the first member of Davicom’s new Cortex product family — the Cortex360. Built to satisfy demanding customer requirements and evolving industry standards, the Cortex 360 is based on the latest Dual ARM hardware processors running an embedded Linux kernel. The all-in-one design includes GPIO, SNMP, ModBus, Ethernet, Serial, Dial-up, DTMF and Voice Response capabilities. BENEFITS • Instantly see site status thanks to the built-in OLED system display. Easily view detailed system status and alarm conditions. • Stay in control of your site for longer periods on battery backup power when power fails, or operate from solar-powered installations. Provisions are in place for further decreases in power draw in the future. • Take full advantage of the power and flexibility of SNMP site management. Use the Cortex360’s SNMP-Manager war machine with up to 1,024 GET, SET and TRAP commands to manage external devices. • Save on having a computer at the site with the built-in HDMI output and keyboard/mouse inputs. Get full on-site management without an external computer. • Manage your site over very low bandwidth communications channels down to 2,400 baud (if regular dial-up or IP channels are not available). Regular high-speed Ethernet, dial-up modem and DTMF/voice-response connectivity are also included at no extra cost. • Count on stress-free firmware upgrades thanks to the Cortex360’s dual firmware memory spaces that ensure fail-over and roll-back operation. Upgrades become virtually un-

breakable, even if you pull the plug during an upgrade. • Measure practically any type of analog sensor through the unit’s fully differential metering inputs. Input ranges between ±0.5V and ±80V with a common mode of up to ±80V ensure full flexibility. • Automatically detect channel silence with the built-in RMS signal detectors. • Monitor the status of various pieces of site equipment by virtue of the Cortex360’s status inputs with fully independent ground returns. • Future-proof your network installation thanks to the Cortex360’s IPV6 compatibility.
• Save on site gadgets through the Cortex360’s built-in, fourport Ethernet switch and four-port USB hub. • Easily navigate through Davicom’s new simplified and streamlined HTML 5-based GUI. If you are already an experienced Davicom user, build on your familiarity and use the Advanced mode or DavLink to take full advantage of the unit’s power. • Operate with confidence in freezing cold or burning hot environments. The Cortex360’s industrial temperature range (–40 to +70°C, –40 to +158°F) will keep it going in extreme conditions, should your site’s HVAC fail or if your site simply does not have a controlled environment. • No worries knowing the units are FCC, IC, CE and RoHS compliant.
