Who Code, is on a mission to close the gender gap in tech and change the image of what a computer pro grammer looks like. Her first step on this ambitious mis sion is to empower young women— especially those from minority back grounds—to feel like they belong.

In this talk, Dr. Barrett shines the light on the transforma tive power of learning spaces where women can collaborate to problem-solve, innovate, and envision themselves as

leaders and, more importantly, equals in their fields. Speaking with a palpable passion, she inspires individuals to dream big and let go of their fears while emphasizing the importance of mentorship and outlining ways that organizations can advance their cultures to be more supportive of women, amplify their voices, and tear down systemic roadblocks that women so often encounter in the workplace.

AVIXA Champions DEI at InfoComm 2023

AVIXA will continue demonstrating its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) at InfoComm 2023. At the show, the AV community will experience more of the manifestation of AVIXA’s dedication to DEI through powerful conversations, diverse voices on stage, and programs to reach diverse youth.

“AVIXA is very proud of the work we are doing with the AV community to bring discussions on DEI out in the open and support programs that are making a positive impact. We want everyone to feel welcome to this exciting industry, because everyone deserves to belong and for their story to be heard,” said David Labuskes, CTS, CAE, RCDD, Chief Executive Officer of AVIXA. “In addition, it’s critical that the environment where we host InfoComm is inclusive to everyone. Laws that adversely affect women, LGBTQ+, Black, Latino, Asian, Indigenous, disabled persons, and others are not in line with AVIXA’s values. Orange County, Florida, the home for InfoComm 2023, shares our dedication to DEI and takes deliberate action to support diverse communities.”

Conversations to Implement Change

Exchange ideas with great minds during the main event for the industry in Spanish. During a half-day, we will analyze and build conversations around trends, opportunities, challenges, threats, and the role of professional AV in modern life. This program will be delivered entirely in Spanish.

AVIXA is intentional about bringing new and diverse voices to the classrooms, panel discussions, and InfoComm stages. In 2021, AVIXA began the “pass the mic” initiative, where speakers are asked to include and support colleagues to present sessions at InfoComm to amplify more diverse voices and points of view. This program is yielding positive results—the InfoComm 2023 current speaker lineup is 26% female or non-binary and 25% percent minorities.

Tempest Spotlights Oasis Outdoor Enclosures

BOOTH 4015 Tempest is showcasing its Oasis family of IP66 outdoor enclosures at InfoComm 2023. Oasis is cooled using the latest in inverter heat pump technology, enabling projectors to operate in ambient temperatures from -15 to 50°C (5-122°F). Oasis cools and maintains a constant temperature where it’s needed—at the projector air inlet. This new development in enclosure technology is especially well suited to RGB laser projectors.

Oasis models are available for most projector/lens combinations, from 5,000 to 50,000 lumens, with landscape, portrait, ultra short throw, and many custom options. It features a tough aluminum welded construction and has large access doors on both sides for projector access.

For multi-projector setups, Oasis Multizone systems optimize installation efficiency by using a single compressor unit to serve up to five Oasis enclosures. Multizone systems still allow individual temperature control for each enclosure, and the projector and enclosure types don’t have to be the same.

The MS-3R incorporates uncompressed HDBaseT 3.0 technology to extend 4K HDR video (18Gbps) to distances up to 333 feet (100 meters) over a single category cable, supporting all 4K resolutions including dHDR (HDR10+ and Dolby Vision at 60Hz). The series includes the MS-3R, which supports HDMI connection; and the MS3RU, which adds USB-C connectivity.

IC23 Tour Offers the Full Range of Full Sail

By any measure this InfoComm 2023 Integrated Experience Tour qualifies as a major event, focusing as it does on the Full Sail Live Venue and the Full Sail University Orlando Health Fortress.

The Full Sail Live Venue has hosted events ranging from education classes to concerts to nationally televised live events. In 2022 the Venue underwent a complete overhaul of the lighting and video playback system, and in early 2023 added a completely immersive concert level audio system.

The Full Sail University Orlando Health Fortress is the home to esports on Full Sail University’s campus. Built to recognize and support Armada, Full Sail’s collegiate esports team, The Fortress is a flexible live

production space, designed to host everything from friendly campus game events to full competitive collegiate tournaments. This unique venue is the largest collegiate esports arena in the country.

The tour will be starting in the Full Sail Live Venue and will show the main and backstage spaces as well as the control rooms and machine rooms. It concludes in the Fortress after giving guests a complete tour of the esports facility’s gaming area and production areas.

This Integrated Experience tour is scheduled for June 13, from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30. p.m. Its featured speaker is Steven Leonard, Director, Event Technical Operations, Full Sail University.

InfoComm, AVI Systems Partner on Esports Live at IC23

InfoComm and AVI Systems are partnering to present InfoComm Esports Live, the show’s first live, collegiate esports venue on the trade show floor on June 14-16. Attendees will experience esports in action all three days with a gaming stage featuring live match play competitions, esports expert presenters and tech at the coach’s stage, play-by-play, interviews, and podcasts from the Shoutcast desk, and a full production zone.

At InfoComm Esports Live (Booth 4033), the gaming stage will have champion-level collegiate teams, including Faulkner University and Talladega College, battling it out in live three-on-three Rocket League matches using gaming stations from CORSAIR and Logitech. The space is outfitted with large format displays, multi-camera production, gaming displays, and headsets from Sony. Plus, there are gaming desks and chairs from Spectrum, lighting control and sound from Q-SYS, and a lightning-fast network by NETGEAR that makes everything run seamlessly for college students and staff.

Attendees can get an up-close look at the production zone, which features Newtek’s live TV and media production suite, Sony camera controllers and monitors, Q-SYS show controller for audio processing and a NETGEAR wired network switch. This powerhouse solution allows live multicamera production with graphics, titles, and player backstories—the perfect way to build an online community of esports enthusiasts.

The Shoutcast stage is where the “play-by-play” action coverage happens. Attendees will see how this adds to the human perspective of esports gaming and the multiple ways to integrate branding and sponsorships into the experience.

The coach’s stage will host keynote conversations with Caleb Colquitt, Head Coach for Faulkner University’s esports team. Colquitt will discuss how the university launched its esports team as a Varsity Athletic Team and doubled their recruiting and admissions goals through esports.

In addition, AVI Systems Chief Technology Officer Brad Sousa will discuss how creating an online presence for esports teams connects colleges and universities to underserved students. Sousa will also talk about how esports creates competitive equality between D1 schools and private schools as well as closing the gender gap in collegiate sports.

ACT Entertainment Offers New Tracking Solution

BOOTH 3643 ACT Entertainment, a manufacturer and distributor of music and live performance equipment, is showcasing its new zactrack mini at InfoComm 2023. This briefcase-sized tracking solution offers easy transport and deployment for areas of 15x15 meters, by a single person. Designed to introduce tracking to new users and spaces, the zactrack mini is perfect for smaller venues, exhibitions and conferences, individual performers, rental companies, houses of worship and more.

At the heart of the zactrack mini is a master anchor, which offers multiple uses and can output DMX directly to fixtures with a single XLR cable. This simplifies the system for the user and removes the need for additional hardware utilized in other systems, such as the wireless access point, DMX

DEI at InfoComm

(continued from page 2)

In addition, InfoComm 2023 is presenting sessions on how organizations can go beyond conversations and take action for racial and gender equity and the importance of leadership being purposeful about implementing DEI practices.

The session “Diversity & Equity in the Modern Workplace: Intentional Leadership” will feature industry DEI experts sharing their experiences and success stories on how belonging is a powerful sentiment that needs to be understood by leaders and ingrained into an organization’s DNA.

The discussion “An Ethical Revolution in Tech: Creating DEI Accountability and Psychologically Safe Workplaces” will bring together a crosssection of the industry to share insights for change at every level. From the perspectives of workplace leadership, management allyship, or passionate outspoken employee perspective, this session will provide real-world examples.

InfoComm 2023 also is hosting the annual AVIXA Women’s Council Breakfast featuring keynote speaker Dr. Tarika Barrett, CEO of Girls Who Code, who is on a mission to close the gender gap in tech and change the image of what a computer programmer looks like. Dr. Barrett will shine a light on the transformative power of learning spaces where women can collaborate to problemsolve, innovate, and envision themselves as leaders and equals in their fields.

On Friday, June 16, HETMA (Higher Education Technology Managers Alliance) and AVIXA will announce the recipients of the Prism Scholarships. Now in its second year, the scholarship program was created to encourage women, LGBTQ+, Black, Latino, Asian, Indigenous, disabled persons, and others to become active leaders and role models for technology managers in the higher education space. Recipients receive a one-year Elite Membership to AVIXA, inclusive of the entire online catalog of education, access to a virtual CTS prep course, course materials, the coverage of

exam fees for the Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) exam, and more.

In addition, the AVIXA Foundation is currently accepting applications for its elAVate Scholarship and Mosaic Scholarship, which encourage and enable students from diverse backgrounds who show great potential to pursue careers in the audiovisual field. Applications will be accepted through September 3, 2023. Learn more and apply at www. avixa.org/scholarships

An Environment for Everyone

DEI Support in Orlando and Orange County, Florida

The Orange County Convention Center is owned and operated by the Orange County Government.

Elected in 2018, the mission of Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings has been to build a community that works for everyone, one where no one is left behind. The Orange County Government takes deliberate action to affirm and uplift the region’s LGBTQ+ community.

In 2022, the City of Orlando received the highest rating by the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index (MEI) for the ninth consecutive year. The MEI evaluates 506 cities across the United States on how inclusive their municipal laws, policies, and services are of LGBTQ+ residents and visitors utilizing 49 different criteria including non-discrimination laws and municipal employment policies, inclusiveness of city services, and law enforcement and municipal leadership on matters of equality.

“We understand the AV community’s concerns about the current divided culture we are experiencing. AVIXA’s values are strong in fostering an industry that supports and uplifts everyone, and we are proud that Orange County shares those values,” says Labuskes. “Shows like InfoComm impact more than 25,500 individuals that are employed either directly or indirectly by the activity generated by the Orange County Convention Center. We are proud to play a role in supporting jobs and the economy in Orange County.”
