The New Generation of Residential and Commercial Control Delivers a
Truly Personalized Customer Experience
Total Control 2.0, which has benefitted from major product enhancements since its release in 2017, enables dealers and integrators to provide a solution to their customers that offers a truly personalized graphic user interface. Total Control also offers a new line of tabletop and in-wall touchscreen controllers, quad-core and dual-core system processors, and new programming software for residential and commercial applications. A Personalized Customer Experience “It is bold, it is robust, and is incredibly fast,” says Roger Buell, owner of Twinsburg, Ohio-based Summit Sound and Security. “The ability to customize the background on the keypads with company logos and take pictures of the physical rooms with Total Control technology is pretty simple and straightforward.” As a luxury audio/video system integrator, Dallas-based Starpower has installed many systems for demanding customers. “We are consistently dealing with large orders—typically over $30,000 to $100,000,” says Craig Brown, vice president of sales at Starpower. “That’s a customer who demands seamless technology that doesn’t get clunky or get in the way, and URC offers that to our customers which is why we use it.” Equipped with a built-in audio video intercom, URC’s Wi-Fienabled TDC-7100 seven-inch tabletop touchscreen controller quickly became the center-piece of the Total Control 2.0 system with its modern and attractive design and intuitive user TKP-5600 interface.
CED19_VIP_XX.indd 18 URC_specialAd_program 1
While the company enjoys the luxury of working on many new homes from inception and pre-wire, Fox adds, “The wireless capabilities of Total Control allow us to retrofit into older homes.” “Total Control is a total automaton system. It’s the brain of your house,” says Neil Lorick, owner of Automation Sensation serving south Florida. “It controls thermostats, lighting, shades, TVs, audio, gates and doors.” Lorick and his team work with customers to create scenes such as “Good Morning” where the shades go up, and the lights, music, and TVs come on with the touch of a button. “Anything you want, there’s a way we can do it,” says Lorick. “Or, just say, “Good Morning” or simply walk into your house and it does it all.” Powerful and Scalable The MRX series of advanced system processors are at the core of Total Control 2.0. Building off of the MRX-10, the flagship quad-core MRX-30 and dual-core MRX-15 offer greater performance and have a full range of connection options and are network based for today’s integration needs. “These processors open the door for dealers to expand their business by taking on even larger and more complex residential and commercial projects,” says Park. The key takeaway is that today’s Total Control is a robust automation and control system recognized and used by top integrators. This powerful and modern system controls smart lighting systems, temperature, shades, locks, gates, and pools, and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant for voice control.
“If you’re doing a larger commercial project or even a large residential project, the MRX-15 or MRX- 30, depending on the outputs, inputs, and sensor configurations, gives you more of an advanced system,” says Paul Williamson, owner of 30AV, which serves Florida’s Panhandle. “All of the newer keypads; the 7100, the 9600 [are] number-one; it’s a fantastically built product. I think reliability over the years is going to be key. It also has an audio video intercom built into it.” Although distribution channels accounted for a significant portion of URC sales, Total Control 2.0 is a premium product, and the company took a calculated risk. “Starting in 2017, we decided to pull the Total Control line completely from distribution and made it available exclusively to URC direct dealers,” says URC’s Park. “ I ’ve g o t my URC rep working one-on-one with my salespeople. This is supTDC-9100 port you don’t get from other manufacturers,” says Starpower’s Brown. “This is support that truly is above and beyond what I get from other manufacturers.” During a time when many dealers are facing ever-shrinking margins, Park notes that URC has significantly increased dealer margins to help them become more profitable. “I’m the sole owner of URC,” says Park. “My primary interest is to meet their [dealers’] needs and not the needs of shareholders or investors.”

The CEDIA Fellows program honors longtime CEDIA members and volunteers who have contributed significantly to the association’s success. Well known throughout the industry, Burkhard is a former CEO, architect and co-founder of SpeakerCraft, Inc. “Jeremy’s legacy in the industry has been anything but quiet—he’s pushed the boundaries in product development with a constant eye on balancing the needs of dealers and end users,” said David Humphries, CEDIA Chairman. For over two decades, Burkhardt has actively contributed to the growth and development of the residential architectural custom electronics industry. He began his career as a custom installer, and then became a successful independent AV retailer where he identified deficiencies in products and installation practices that drove him to design innovative and time-saving products that revolutionized the home installation market. D-Tools Intros Cloud Browser-Based Design Tool BOOTH 1343 New to D-Tools, Cloud is the addition of critical, intelligent system design. Built for collaboration on opportunities, quotes, and system design, D-Tools Cloud’s browser-based and datadriven drawing capabilities remove the need for outside drawing applications A screenshot from the D-Tools Cloud design tool such as Visio or AutoCAD. D-Tools Cloud’s browser-based design tools automatically create data-driven signal flow drawings (Line Diagrams) based on a quote’s bill of materials. D-Tools Cloud helps design a system quickly based on suggested items and work completed in the past. If someone would rather draw first and quote later, D-Tools Cloud enables users to start designing directly, and any items added automatically populates a bill of materials, reducing the tedious task of synchronizing two systems. D-Tools Cloud’s new Whiteboards enable users to sketch out and share ideas, collaborate on design and help clients visualize their project—all in-app.

Z-Wave Alliance Unveils Z-Wave Plus v2 Certification BOOTH 1743 The Z-Wave Alliance recently introduced its new Z-Wave Plus v2 certification, designed for devices built on the new Z-Wave 700 platform. With more than 3,000 certified products in the ecosystem, the new Z-Wave Plus v2 certification ensures even stronger interoperability, security and ease of install for end users. Alliance representatives will be on-site in the Z-Wave Pavilion (Booth #1743) to discuss the new certification and its benefits for residential integrators and systems technicians. Z-Wave Plus v2 certification brings features like SmartStart, a setup feature that significantly reduces initial system setup time for both consumers and integrators. SmartStart enabled hubs are able to recognize any SmartStart enabled accessory device with a quick app scan of its QR code. With SmartStart, the device’s information is already set up inside the hub and pairing is complete prior to a consumer adding product—the setup all happens behind the scenes, drastically shortening and simplifying the product setup process for consumers. Additional updates for certification of Z-Wave 700-based devices include a requirement for device identification through an LED light on each product to provide user confirmation that the right device is setup within a hub’s app.
‘Tame the Beast’ at OneVision Resources
BOOTH 2651 Technical service has become an overwhelming burden for the majority of integrators. As their client bases have grown and the systems they install become more complex, the ability to provide even basic support is daunting. Like a beast that has been growing in the shadows for years, this service challenge is confronting companies of all shapes and sizes. OneVision is inviting integrators to “Tame the Beast.” OneVision’s dedicated team, deep technical expertise, and software suite streamlines the process of service while, at the same time, creating recurring monthly revenue. This is not a vendor/client relationship, but rather a unique partnership that is designed to transform an integrator’s service department into a major revenue-generating entity. Companies that would be happy for their service department to break even are suddenly realizing that service can be sold as a product, not unlike a loudspeaker or a television. The system is truly scalable, profitable and sustainable. Visit Booth 2651 for more information.

Simply Reliable Launches New truWIP Process in smartOFFICE BOOTH 3020 Simply Reliable is unveiling the truWIP Process. This new feature in smartOFFICE delivers real time revenue recognition, real time job cost, as well as real time percentage of completion automatically. And, all the employees need to do is their regular job. “Integrators are busy, they just flat out do not have any extra time on their hands,” says Simply Reliable CEO/President and Co-Founder. “We have been working on a way to deliver real-time important information about the integrator’s business to them without them having to have a room full of data entry people and forensic accountants. Integrators don’t have time to dig in and find out this important data, yet if they do not know the financial health of their company, they could be just digging themselves a huge hole that they can never get out of. “We added inventory tracking to smartOFFICE in the spring and time tracking at the beginning of summer. These two elements are critical in providing data to smartOFFICE allowing the truWIP process to
intelligently analyze the data and deliver meaningful and important data to the company on a range of metrics about the integrator’s business.” truWIP adds literally no additional work for anyone on the team. This is the process, complete: • When products arrive, scan them in. • When products are delivered to the jobsite, scan them out. • Salespeople create proposals that close. • Deposits are collected via the proposal payment link. • Technicians clock in and out and mark their tasks complete. • Invoices are generated at each milestone. • Quickbooks is automatically updated with realtime revenue recognition.
