‘Dangerous’ dog seized after attack A “DANGEROUS” dog has been seized by Frankston Council after an attack on a smaller dog and its owner that left both in need of medical treatment. The female dog was seized from a Langwarrin property and declared a dangerous dog. Council are also looking for a male dog in relation to the attack. The accused owner of the “dangerous” dogs was fined $5000 and ordered to pay costs to council and to the attacked owner to pay for medical and vet expenses. Frankston mayor Cr Michael O’Reilly said “it was due to the great work of council officers that this dangerous dog was seized and the

owners charged.” “It’s not ok to be walking your dog, minding your own business and then next thing you know your pet and yourself are being attacked by an uncontrolled dog. It’s imperative for all dog owners to practice responsible ownership, this includes making sure your dog is secured within your property or is in your control when out in public,” he said. “It is also important to remind all residents of the importance of cooperating with Council officers when they are required to take lawful action to protect the community.” The female dog has not been put down.

Food scraps saved LEFTOVERS and food scraps will have a new home from October onwards, with Frankston Council voting to introduce a food waste kerbside collection. Frankston mayor Michael O’Reilly said “the collection will take place as part of the garden organics kerbside collection service, already in place.” “Many Frankston City residents have already opted to have a garden organics kerbside collection each fortnight. This new food waste collection means those with a green waste bin

can include their kitchen scraps from October,” he said. “Frankston City is an early adopter of the composting scheme alongside Councils like Bass Coast Shire and Glen Eira City Council, who have seen a significant increase in household waste diverted from landfill. “Garden organic waste bins will remain on a fortnightly collection schedule and will continue to be taken to a composting facility near Sale. More information on the new collection will be provided over the coming months.”
