Frankston mayor Nathan Conroy said that council was working to help create “vibrant, appealing spaces encouraging locals to get out and about once again”. “We all know what a challenging time it’s been for the hospitality industry with the uncertainty the pandemic brings, so I encourage everyone to get out and make the most of these beautiful outdoor dining venues especially in this warmer weather we’re enjoying,” he said. More restaurants set up outside MORE restaurants have opened outdoor dining spaces in Frankston. Grants from the state government’s outdoor dining program and from the Frankston Revitalisation Board have been helping businesses set up shop outside. Council has also been running a campaign, Do It Outdoors 2.0, to incentivize and encourage restaurants to set up outdoor dining. One restaurant that has recently opened their outdoor dining area to patrons is Gapfed. Its owner Greg Chronopoulis said “I feel like I am on a Greek Island somewhere, it’s just beautiful and our customers are loving it.”

Opposition pledges cash for new school programs THE federal opposition will spend $440 million on upgrades and programs at schools to help kids recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic if it wins the election. Dunkley MP Peta Murphy said last week that the funding would be used on better ventilation, building upgrades, and mental health support. “The past two years have been tough for families in Dunkley. Kids have missed out on activities and experiences, and many are struggling with their mental wellbeing,” Ms Murphy said. “Labor doesn’t want any Australian child held back because of the pandemic. Our plan will help make sure our schools are safe places for kids to learn and our investment in mental health and school upgrades will make sure every kid can get back on track and benefit from a world class education.” An election date has not yet been confirmed, but it is expected to be around May.
