Divers help finish road DIVERS have been brought in to help complete the Lathams Road upgrade. Last month, a diver went three metres underwater to remove a plug which had been installed to stop water flow into Boggy Creek so that it could be drained. Water will now flow freely through an upgraded culvert between Carrum Downs, Seaford, and Boggy Creek. All new lanes opened on Lathams Road in late July. The finishing touches are now being put on the redevelopment. All eastbound lanes on Hall Road closed between the Frankston-Dandenong Road intersection and Lavender Lane from 7pm Thursday 24

August to 5am Monday 28 August to lay the final asphalt layer. Major Road Projects Victoria program director Marc Peterson said the Lathams Road upgrade “is a vital project for the local community and businesses. We thank people for their patience throughout construction as we get on with our finishing works.” For more information visit bigbuild.vic.gov. au/projects/mrpv/lathams-road-upgrade. Retiree’s fundraising efforts ‘vital’ RETIRED Bonbeach resident Murray Elliott is doing his part to fund research into motor neurone disease by selling raffle tickets. Elliott has been selling raffle tickets to raise money for MND research for around seven years. He estimates he has raised $9000 in that time. Elliott said he was inspired to make a difference after a friend was diagnosed with MND. “80 percent of the people that I talk to have got knowledge of somebody in their family or have a friendship with someone that has MND. They

tell me they would love to give support,” he said. “This research is just such a vital thing to give money towards. [Researchers] have tried to do something about this, and tried to find something for it, but we don’t know enough about it.” Elliott heads down to Woolworths Chelsea most days to sell raffle tickets. The supermarket often donates hot chickens for the cause. “I can’t thank Woolworths enough - they do so much,” he said. 72-year-old Elliott is a resident of Calvary Bonbeach Residential Aged Care.
