Rubber ducks race down creek MORE than $6000 was raised for local community groups at a rubber duck race in Frankston earlier this month. The inaugural Duck Derby was organised by Rotary Peninsula 2.0. A little more than 600 rubber ducks were sent into Kananook Creek to race. ducks and supporting local groups and businesses.” The first place winner was owned by 8-year-old Mack, who won a $1000 voucher to Karingal Hub Shopping Centre. $200 and $100 Village Cinemas vouchers were awarded to second-place Lily and third-place Pippa. Vouchers to restaurants and cafes were handed to other top performers. The race was sponsored by Urban DC and Harbour Frankston.

Olympian trains Movie raises funds next generation AN ex-Olympian who was born in Frankston is overseeing a new group of Olympic hopefuls. Former athlete Craig Mottram is the head coach of On Athletic Team Oceania, a team of athletes hoping to compete at the highest level. Five members of the team have been announced - Olympian Ben Buckingham, World Championship competitors Claudia Hollingsworth and Tess Kirsopp-Cole, Commonwealth Games runner Keely Small, and 1500m hopeful Maudie Skyring. Mottram says it is an honour to be training the next generation. “I’m honoured to coach, train and guide these exceptional runners at a club like OAC that provides athletes and coaches with the resources and support needed for success,” he said. “There is so much potential in this group and I’m eager for all the big milestones and challenges we will conquer together as we look toward the 2024 Paris Olympics.”
THE Mornington Auxiliary will host a movie screening next month to raise money for Peninsula Home Hospice. The film Living, starring Bill Nighy, will screen at Village Cinemas Karingal at 10.30am on 22 March. Tickets for the event are $30, with a drink and popcorn included. Cash for road works THE federal government will provide a little under $744,000 to Frankston Council to improve local roads and infrastructure. Council can use the funds from July. Dunkley MP Peta Murphy said “this funding is a big win.” “We know what a difference good local roads and community facilities make,” she said. “I look forward to working with Frankston City Council to get on with the work of delivering the infrastructure our community needs and deserves.”
