Train stabling facility finished THE train storage facility at Kananook Station has been completed. The stabling has been in the works for years, and was finally opened this month. A statement from the Level Crossing Removal Project read that “the new facility provides the essential daily services needed to keep Frankston line trains running reliably, allowing trains to be stored, cleaned and prepared for the next day’s service.” “The facility has been future proofed with room for more train storage or a train maintenance facility as network demand increases. “More than 11,000 tonnes or two Olympic sized swimming pools of rail ballast, recycled from the Carrum level crossing removal project
was used to build the facility, helping reduce our reliance on raw materials and energy required to mine and transport materials. “As part of ongoing works to improve the performance and reliability of Frankston line services, the project is also upgrading more than 30 kilometres of overhead wiring, replacing 60 per cent of old signalling equipment with a modern computer-based system, and building three new substations along the Frankston line.”

Helping hand for Early’n’Fresh SIMON Javor and his wife Izzy are running the small boutique business Early’n’Fresh, and Simon has been in the fruit and vegetable industry since 2001. Concentrating on South East Melbourne and country Victoria, Early’n’Fresh started trading early 2017 and now happily supplies over 100 cafes and restaurants. With Covid-19 thrust upon us so suddenly and the closure of non-essential businesses, they had to change the way Early’n’Fresh went about things and had to try to come up with an idea that would save their business and employees. Early’n’Fresh changed their business model to retail also and is now offering home deliveries of fresh fruit and vegetables to residential homes in Melbourne with a website from which customers are able to choose exactly what they want. They pride themselves on their quality as they purchase their produce every morning fresh at the wholesale market in Epping and deliver all over Melbourne. If there is one good thing that came out of Covid 19 is that an ex AFL Player and now radio host of Melbourne’s No.1 radio show on Fox FM helped them immensely to save their little
business. When the closure of non-essential businesses got announced on Monday 23rd March 2020 Simon was devastated as he knew that he had to stand down staff. Izzy never saw Simon that stressed and worried in their marriage before. Desperate to help, Izzy then decided to send a message to the Instagram account of Fifi Fev and Byron as well as the personal Instagram account of Brendan. This is when things changed. Brendan didn’t reply to her message but bought up Early’n’Fresh the next morning on the show. The following day he actually put an order through on the Early N Fresh website and Simon personally delivered his order the next day. Without Simon knowing he recorded the delivery which he then used on his Instagram account tagging Early N Fresh. Because of him business got the push it needed when it needed it the most. After his social media post Early’n’Fresh’s Instagram went crazy with new followers and requests. Early’n’Fresh is so thankful to the community and everybody who has helped spreading the word.
