Basement Blaze Extends in Syosset On July 7, 2012, the Syosset Fire Department battled a basement fire at the Caracalla Restaurant on Jericho Turnpike. Upon arrival, firefighters were met with a fire that was extending throughout the structure. Once the stairs gave way, all units were pulled out of the building and an exterior operation went into effect. Numerous mutual aid units responded to assist with the operation. Two firefighters suffered injuries; they were treated and released. The fire marshal was called to the scene for an investigation of the fire. -Fire News photos by Paul Mazza
