BoFiNet undertook the following outreach and marketing initiatives during the year to promote awareness and uptake of services by the public and the business community
GABORONE CITY COUNCIL FREE Wi-Fi LAUNCH

BoFiNet entered into a strategic partnership with Gaborone City Council to provide free Wi-Fi at ten locations in Gaborone. This partnership was launched by Gaborone City Council on the 9th October 2020 at the Gaborone Main Mall and officiated by His Excellency The President, Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Masisi. The ten Wi-Fi hotspot areas comprised malls and other public locations.

UPICtv LAUNCH

In October 2020, BoFiNet launched Botswana’s first IPTV platform called UPICtv. His Excellency The President, Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, presided over the launch event on 24th October 2020 at the Gaborone, GICC. This project aims to increase utilisation of BoFiNet network infrastructure, increase uptake of BoFiNet’s existing services, i.e. FTTx, Wi-Fi and IPT, and grow production and consumption of local content. This growth will lead to creative and employment opportunities across different industries for the youth in Botswana.
FIBRE TO THE HOME (FTTh) - PHASE 1
Following the launch of the FTTh technology by BoFiNet in October 2019, the year under review focused on activation campaigns to sensitize the public on the availability of the new technology at Extensions 3,5,9,11 and 39, its benefits and contributions towards an enhanced internet experience.
A total of 1,342 homes have been connected under Phase 1 of the project. As a continuation, twenty (20) more locations within Gaborone were selected for FTTH Phase 2, which commenced in June 2020
SUBMARINE NETWORK WORLD 2020
In this reporting year, BoFiNet was given an opportunity to participate virtually in order to create the sales leads through networking platforms availed at the Submarine Network World 2020 in Singapore. This opportunity allowed BoFiNet to tap into international markets and showcase potential business partnerships, discover innovation, and develop relationships with the additional network with partners in the international community.
DIGITAL DELTA DATA CENTRE GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY
On the 14th of March 2021, BoFiNet held a ground breaking and brand launch for the Digital Delta Data Centre located at Botswana Innovation Hub Science & Technology Park in Block 8, Gaborone. This event was officiated by the Minister of Transport and Communications, Honourable Thulagano Segokgo. The Data Centre is positioned to enhance Botswana’s ICT ecosystem and bring the internet closer to Botswana. The state of the art facility will host approximately 400 racks for different entities who have interest in securing their data in the 1000 square metres of white space.
