Acquisì subito grande popolarità e, negli anni successivi, sotto l’etichetta Namco sono state pubblicate varie versioni per la quasi totalità delle console e dei computer, conservando fino a oggi la sua fama di classico dei videogiochi.

L’origine di PAC-MAN è piuttosto singolare. Sembra infatti che l’idea soggiunse a Toru Iwatani durante una cena con degli amici guardando una pizza a cui era stata tolta una fetta. Dopo quattordici mesi da quella cena, precisamente il 22 maggio del 1980, grazie a un team di sviluppo di otto tecnici, divisi equamente fra software e hardware e capeggiati da Shigeo Funaki, comprendente anche il musicista Toshio Kai, vide la luce il primo PAC-MAN.

Una volta che ufficialmente introdotto negli Stati Uniti nell’ottobre 1980, ha guadagnato popolarità molto più che in Giappone, chiamato “la febbre PAC-MAN”. Ha generato un ampio programma di merchandising con oltre 400 articoli e una serie TV con valutazioni elevate (56% della quota) negli Stati Uniti, che ha portato a ricevere il premio “Macchina da gioco a gettoni di maggior successo” dal Guinness World Records di giugno 2005. Con il lancio di nuove console e giochi per dispositivi ogni anno, la sua popolarità ha attraversato il mondo per oltre 40 anni.

La DC Comics è una delle più importanti case editrici di fumetti negli Stati Uniti d’America.

Tra i suoi simboli ci sono personaggi che hanno fatto la storia del genere supereroistico e avventuroso, come Superman, Batman e Wonder Woman.

Sulle pagine di Action Comics n.1 (giugno 1938) viene creato il primo Supereroe DC della storia del fumetto: Superman. Più veloce di un proiettile in corsa, più potente di una locomotiva... L’Uomo d’Acciaio combatte una battaglia senza fine per la verità, la giustizia e lo stile americano.

Durante lo stesso anno viene ideato un altro personaggio simbolo dell’editore e cioè Batman, l’Uomo Pipistrello, senza superpoteri ma con una grande forza e tanti gadget futuristici. Nel 1941 si aggiunge un altro personaggio/icona: Wonder Woman, prima Supereroina DC della storia, una donna in grado di possedere i poteri di Superman ma che sia anche capace di trasmettere quell’amore e quell’empatia tipici del genere femminile.

During the same year, another symbolic character of the publisher was created, namely Batman, one of the most iconic fictional characters in the world, he has trained his body and mind to near physical perfection to be a self-made Super Hero. In 1941 another character / icon was added: Wonder Woman, beautiful as Aphrodite, wise as Athena, swifer than Hermes, and stronger than Hercules, Princess Diana of Themyscira fights for peace in Man’s World.

The Joker first appeared in Gotham City around the same time that the Batman arrived on the scene, and since their very first confrontation, the Clown Prince of Crime has been the Dark Knight’s most formidable nemesis. While Batman represents justice and order, the Joker is his complete opposite, seeing himself as an agent of chaos, the living embodiment of the cruel randomness of fate. The Joker’s psychosis causes his personality to shift between goofy prankster and mass murderer on a dime, making it impossible to predict his next move. It’s this unpredictability that really makes him such a dangerous opponent.

Certainly, no villain has managed to inflict as much pain and suffering on Batman as the Joker, who has on more than one occasion brought death to Bruce Wayne’s extended family. As long as there is a Batman bringing justice to Gotham City, there will be a Joker to bring nightmares.
