Take EVERYTHING out of your closet (and give it a good cleaning while you’re in there). Donate or Dispose: Resist the temptation to bestow your items upon a friend or loved one who “may be able to use it.” The truth is, you might be adding to their clutter! Donate closet contents that are in good shape, and dispose of the rest. Review What’s Left: Ask yourself how an object ended up in your closet. Was it purposeful, or did it just need a last-minute home? Think carefully about whether the item could be better stored in a different place. If so, take it there immediately! Organize Like Items: Sort things in a way that makes sense to you: by color,

purpose, category, frequency of use, even weight or size. In your closet, create “zones” in which each grouping will reside. This will make it easier to put things away, as well as find a place for newly-acquired treasures. Keep Everything in Sight: The surest way to underuse (or forget about) an item is to store it in a dark place or behind or underneath something else. Use clear, labeled storage bins, and take advantage of LED lights, cubbies, partitioned drawers, and slide-out racks to keep closet contents visible.
