ID-WINTER IS A great time to work on home organization, and the perfect place to start is your primary closet! Whether you tackle the task yourself or call for professional help, the Closets by McKenry Design Team has suggestions that will prepare you to the fullest. Read on for three top tips that will make your closet a place you’ll linger in long after you’ve gotten dressed. Step One: Collect Ideas Closets by McKenry designer Robin Carbough suggests creating a vision board of your ideal space using Pinterest, Instagram, or photos cut out of magazines. “Write down how you want the space to make you feel and how you prefer storing your items; for instance, behind closed doors or more open style storage,” said Robin. “Think about what would bring you the most peace, as well as save you time in your daily routines.” Step Two: Redecorate the Space Many homeowners don’t consider enhancing the atmosphere of their closets, but Closets by McKenry Designer Cesar Rivera encourages it. “A wide range of decorative hardware styles, finishes, and moldings allow you to accent your space with the most modern or classic design touches,” he said. And, don’t forget the lighting: “Think beyond ceiling lights. Built-in closet lighting comes in a variety of styles and can give homeowners insight into every piece in their collection and every corner of their closet, day or night.”

Step Three: Clean it Out Chris McKenry, Chief Organizing Officer at Closets by McKenry, suggests going through all the items in your closet. “Decluttering and purging will allow you to clearly see what space you have to work with so you can get an idea of what needs to go back into your newly-redesigned closet and where.” Robin adds, “When sorting, ask yourself these questions: Do I love it, use it, or have a better one? Clean out the space even if in bitesize time blocks, and celebrate those gains.” Dream Today, Enjoy Tomorrow Making time to organize your primary closet will bring a refreshing change to your home and create space for new treasures and experiences. And the more you prepare, the more rewarding your results will be.
