BIRTHDAYISHES W HAPPY Birthday to us! We have managed to reach 21 years old, now we can fly a helicopter, adopt a child and start to drink if we were in the USA. We weren’t going to let any virus stop our celebrations here at HQ and tucked into a feast of cakes and treats at our office party. Albeit at arm’s length and with our face masks on. Two of our longest serving team members Jose and Marcos blew the candles out on our fantastic birthday cake. Our fearless leaders Michel and Steven Euesden rejoiced in reaching this landmark with some positive words: “As we come into six weeks of lockdown the communities have
come together better than we could have ever imagined. The people’s paper is delivering your message every single week, in print and online. You say it, we communicate it,” exclaimed Michel. We hope you will raise a glass and celebrate with us because if it wasn’t for our readers we may never have made it this far. Here’s to many more years together. Cheers from all at EWN!

Age Care Association “LUNCH is on the table” is what Age Care is saying this week ! Thanks to the generosity of Sarina in San Pedro, and John Crawford (aka JC Paella Man) in Riviera, Age Care Calahonda is able to deliver two meals a week to their members - on Wednesdays and Sundays. Not only does this relieve the monotony of cooking for some, but also offers the carers that do cooking a welcome break. In addition to this service, Age Care is providing an online talk site for members to communicate with each other, news bulletins twice a week, regular shopping and checks with clinical and hospital appointments, and prescription pick-ups. With five different branches of Age Care, Los Boliches, Coin, Benalmadena and Calahonda, the Association looks after over 300 members. When the lock down is over the Fuengirola branch will reopen their drop in centre. The helpline emergency number 635 407 255 is open 24/7.
PLEA FOR HELP SEARCH: The rescue centre currently has nine horses and one pony in its care. RENOWNED for rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming horses that have previously been abused both emotionally and physically, the Coin-based Charity SEARCH - the Spanish Equine Association for Rescue currently has nine horses and one pony in its care, and was founded by Sue Barns and her husband Alan. It is facing an uncertain future due to the relentless fallout caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown as it concentrates all its efforts on rebuilding the trust and confidence of these traumatised equines with the aim of finding them loving, new forever homes, but with no government funding of any kind, SEARCH depends entirely on donations in order to survive. The Charity’s principal fundraising event - its annual Garden Party - which after having been cancelled due to torrential
rain and flash floods first in September 2019, and then again in November, was rescheduled to take place this month, on Sunday April 26… only to be cancelled for a third time due to this pandemic. Quiz nights and bag-packing fundraisers are now also postponed, while the student volunteers from northern Europe, who offer SEARCH much-needed live-in help and physical support, have had no choice but to cancel their visits. Meanwhile SEARCH’s much-loved equines still need fresh hay, plus the specialised care that only vets and farriers can provide. Please help us to continue with our commitment to help the horses. Donations can be made via PayPal (info@serch.es) or by bank transfer (please see www.serch.es for details). Or call Sue on 660 220 700. Thank you.
