The arrival of COVID-19 has affected the cinematic industry in a major way, with some blockbusters (including the latest Fast & Furious and James Bond films) having been pushed forward for various months. The good news is that many producers have made their new and recent films available online via streaming.

BAD BOYS FOR LIFE
The first two Bad Boys films starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence were as action-packed as they were side-splittingly funny. The third, touted as the ‘last ride’ of the two hilarious protagonists, can be streamed on a number of platforms, including YouTube, Amazon, Google Play, the Apple Store, Vudu, and Microsoft.
FROZEN II AND ONWARD
Frozen II is a massive hit with little kids across the globe, so it’s good news that those who weren’t able to watch the film at the movies can now catch all of Anna and Elsa’s adventures online via Disney+. The platform is also streaming Onward – a fantasy-themed film that was just starting to screen in theatres when the pandemic hit. Onward is a Pixar Animation Studios film that follows the lives of two teenaged elf brothers – Ian and Barley – who embark on an adventure to spend just one more day with their late father. The brothers are voiced by Chris Pratt and Tom Holland.
NEVER RARELY SOMETIMES ALWAYS
This indie film is heartwarming and gently humorous all at once. Directed by upcoming filmmaker Eliza Hittman, it tells the tale of Autumn – a teenager facing an unintended pregnancy. “This is the most amazing sound you will hear in your life,” says the doctor as she does an ultrasound and Autumn hears her baby’s heartbeat – something that for her, is the saddest of sounds. She doesn’t feel ready to be a mum but doesn’t know where to turn and has nobody to support her as she struggles to make a very difficult decision.
THE GENTLEMEN
Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen is a crime thriller starring Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Hugh Grant, and Jeremy Strong. McConaughey plays an American expatriate who amasses a fortune by building a marijuana empire in London. When word gets out that he’s looking to retire, it doesn’t take long for competing drug lords to try and steal his throne.
DOLITTLE
We were really excited about this. It seemingly had all the ingredients required to make it a success – the Dr. Dolittle narrative, cute animals, and the cutest of them all, Robert Downey Jr. in his first starring role since the Marvel films. In fact, the film was panned by critics, but we don’t care. This will be on the top of our weekend viewing list.
EMMA
Anna Taylor-Joy plays jovial trickster Emma in the latest film adaptation of this Jane Austen classic. Female director Autumn de Wilde graces the film with cinematographic splendour and captures the feminist undercurrents that run through all of Austen’s work.
THE INVISIBLE MAN
We are so excited about this super tense thriller, which sees Elisabeth Moss take on an invisible enemy. It is actually a spin on the classic sci-fi novel by H.G. Wells, since it takes the spotlight off the invisible character and shines it on a woman who is subject to his cruelty. Also available on all online stores.
THE WAY BACK
Pull out the tissues; this tearjerker is the story of an alcoholic basketball coach struggling to come to terms with his failed marriage. The story is very close to home for its protagonist – Ben Affleck – who has openly talked about his struggle against alcoholism and his regret at his own divorce.
