The only thing I look forward to during the summer season are mangoes. I'm not picky with the innumerable varieties the king of fruits offers us, because I've always preferred the classic Benishan/Banginapalli. It's not just easily available and affordable, but many delectable desserts are created out of this particular variety. Talking about desserts, the mango and cream cake at Conçu has been a go-to favourite for ages. This fluffy as a cloud cake comes with cream, mascarpone, and fresh mango pieces that are aesthetically layered together. No summer passes by without me trying out this exquisite cake.

My all-time favourite variant Mango will be Suvarnarekha, most prominently seen in Vizag and Andhra but also available across Telugu states. It looks distinctive from the other usual mango varieties. It has a yellow body and a maroon-toned blush around the tip. In the north, it is often referred to as Sundari. A full, ripe suvarnarekha is still firm, and a gentle squeeze brings out the chunky, juicy pulp, which is yum. I usually get my stash of these mangoes from Vizag or the roadside places in KPHB, especially in the lane beside Nexus.

Mangoes are indeed a delight and are one of the reasons summers are so special. One of my favorite variety of mango is pedda rasalu. Spending my childhood amidst mango farms suring summers, i have tasted some of the best, natural and tasty mangoes. Nothing can beat a fruit that has naturally ripped. Hamidi ice creams in abids has one of the most amazing ice creams in town. Their mango icecreams brings back all the memories of the natural mangoes i cherished during my childhood.

Mango rules everyone’s heart. Though, one can find mango in various varieties like Alphonso, Totapuri, Dasheri, Chausa and many more but nothing beats Banganpalli. I absolutely love Banganpalli’s no fibre rich pulpy texture. If we talk about the mango dishes one can find in Hyderabad, fresh mango cream tops the chart. I personally love the mango fresh cream at crispy crust (lakdi Ka Pul and Jalvihar). It’s rich, not too sweet and loaded with fresh cream and mango chunks, an absolute treat for all the mango lovers!

Summers are the best for two reasons- Mangoes and summer holidays. I love rasalu along with himayath. It is so much fun spending time with my family and having mangoes during our lazy afternoons. Another place where i like to enjoy the richness of mangoes is at cream stone. Their crafted icecreams with a crispy base is what makes it even better.
