GREECE

The ancient and epic tales of Greek gods and warriors have transcended their origins and become part of today’s world, so Greece’s popularity as one of the most visited countries in the world is unsurprising – however, there is far more of the country to enjoy than its cultural heritage.

With a gorgeous climate, delicious and healthy Mediterranean cuisine and scenery that rivals the best in the world, Greece deserves its continued popularity as a near-unbeatable European holiday destination. There are also unspoilt fishing villages, beautiful architectural marvels, a traditional culture, varied nightlife and beautiful beaches to relish. Greece’s gastronomy extends the full range of Mediterranean cooking. Souvlaki – temptingly cooked meat on a skewer – is a firm favourite, while taramasalata, moussaka and baklava are all dishes worth trying while you’re in the country of their birth.

Corfu Corfu is one of the more rural Greek islands, making it perfect for sightseeing and soaking up the scenery. The island’s unparalleled bays, gorgeous coves and varied beaches make for enticing draws, and the 120 miles of coastline backed by rows of typically lush Greek fauna make Corfu a picturesque treat, peppered with attractive villages and resorts nestled amongst olive groves and verdant cypress. Despite its generally composed character, the island has a colourful and energetic nightlife, full of live bands and nightclubs amongst the tavernas and bars. There are also plenty of great places to eat, and you will find that in Corfu the Mediterranean cuisine is often cooked to perfection.

The island’s fresh produce is plentiful, with tomatoes, herbs, olives, lemons and kumquats forming the sumptuous foundations of many an appetizing meal. Visitors interested in the island’s historical significance will enjoy learning more about its many occupations throughout the years, as each has contributed to its contemporary culture. Corfu’s climate varies within a fairly narrow range throughout the year, with averages of 25ºC in July.
