EMIC ARE WE READY? Dr. Daniel Jernigan looked out over the crowd in the Rollins Auditorium and quipped that from his vantage, it looked like a rock concert. Indeed, the director of the influenza division of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was addressing a venue that was filled to capacity. Reporters from the Wall Street Journal, CNN, and Wired circulated, along with a TV crew from Japan. At least 1,000 more people in 18 different countries were watching online. Warehouses were converted to keep the infected people quarantined.
