If not for Thomas Edison, How dark it would be. For that, we owe him a ton. We’re sure you’d agree!

You may wonder why the poem about Edison and why in Vienna, Ontario of all places…Well, Thomas Edison himself spent many years here visiting his grandfather, Samuel Edison. Samuel was a loyalist from New Jersey, who settled in Vienna in 1811. There is still a plaque of the Edison Homestead where the house once stood. If you’re into cemeteries and history, there are also many of Edison’s relatives buried in the Pioneer Edison Cemetry.

There’s more than just history here to see, why not join in on the Watermelon fun in Straffordville, at the Straffordville Watermelon Fest. This event is known for its watermelon seed spitting contest, where contestants try and spit their seed the furthest. Think we are kidding...come see for yourself.
