Au Revoir Dr. Mehdi Lazar
In the fall of 2017, EB enthusiastically welcomed Mehdi Lazar as its new Head of School. His early commitment to meeting every staff member one on one and making himself available to all community members foreshadowed his dedication to this school and engagement with its many constituents. He quickly made his mark, showcasing a leadership style that included intensive research, creative problem solving, efficient collaborative work, and comprehensive attention to detail. With his work on the new Strategic Plan, he instilled a strong vision of EB in the near future. He also brought warmth and a sense of humor to his interactions that inspired a renewed energy in all. Mehdi made the safety and well-being of students and staff his top priority: he initiated the ALICE training program and created a blueprint to react to an active shooter event; he co-chaired EB’s DEIJ task force, providing steady and inspiring leadership to our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice efforts, and helping to establish a three-year DEIJ Strategic Plan; and he shepherded the school through the complex and quickly-changing landscape of the pandemic. Mehdi met the challenges of the last year with calm, organization, innovation, and resolve, and was able to safely bring students back to campus well in advance of expectations.
Apart from the care he brought to his work and his passion for bilingual education, we will miss his smile and quick wit, his continual presence—at the gate, in the classroom, at all events—and his genuine ability to connect with everyone at the school.
Mehdi, we wish you success in your next endeavors and hope that you and your family find much happiness in your new home!
